Downtown Edmonton's soon to be main 'urban park' right smack in the middle of Downtown on what is currently all surface parking lots and ~1.2ha in size.

Vancouver's building one of those on top of a shopping mall, surrounded by condo towers in Oakridge. About as urban a park as you can get.

I feel like that Edmonton Park would be much better if that large grassy section with the Northern Light feature was a reflecting pond with a fountain. In the winter it could be a cool new skating rink.

Edmonton's proposed park needs serious development around it.

We have 3 rinks to choose from Downtown and don't need another... but agree that it could be used for winter programming or festivals.

These were taken just over 2 weeks ago. It looks close to complete now. I wonder if it will be ready to open by June?

The Pointe-aux-Lièvres in 1975 versus 2019. This industrial piece of land was transformed into an urban park in 2010. The last few lots still owned by industrial companies were bought and decontaminated by the city last year. Really morphing into its own little neigbhourhood.

Nowadays, with its brand new service pavilion, where you can rent ice skates during the winter when the park morphs into a huge skating rink.

If we're doing befores and afters, here's Lansdowne Park.

First, Lansdowne Park(ing lot), which was roughly its state between 1967 and 2012. It was never really a park in its entire history from 1868 to 2012, but mostly open ground with a few buildings for the Central Canada Exhibition and other events.

https://app06.ottawa.ca/calendar/ott...%20doc%201.htm

And since 2014.

https://fotenn.com/project/lansdowne-redevelopment/

Lansdowne 2.0 will see the 10k Civic Centre Arena/North Side Stands demolished. A new 5k arena will be built east (park side) of the stadium, new North Side Stands where they are now, and a retail podium and towers over the site of the current Civic Centre.

No improvements to the actual Park portion have been presented so far.
