Did you know the Chicago Title & Trust Building was supposed to have an identical twin? They would have made quite the duo.

The original design for the Waterview Tower. Okay this one really burns. I see the current filler building everyday on my walk to work and it burns. I always picture how awesome this 90 story, thousand footer would look there instead. With its lit crown standing proud right on the river it would of been great. Its also a reminder of how things can go wrong well after construction starts. This thing was already twenty something stories tall before going on hold! That really burned. Oh well.

Next up is Adolph Loos Tribune Tower proposal.
Architects from around the world submitted entries to the design competition for the tower, including some modern proposals that were ahead of their time. Instead of going modern they went neo-gothic with the winner. While very beautiful, a majority of the submissions were mostly "neo- something". But the submission by Adolph Loos stood out from all of them. Had it been submitted on time instead of as a joke (its a news column, get it?) this thing really would of stood out in the skyline, even to this day.

Very interesting! Have you by any chance modelled Eliel Saarinen's Chicago Tribune Competition Entry? As a Finn that would be very interesting to see.

I don't but could easily model that one. In fact I might model a few of the entries and show them all in one post.

I wanted to post some more views of the skyline with un-built projects. This one needs no introduction since it was so recently cancelled. The Chicago Spire. Say what you will about the design but this for sure would of became an instant Chicago icon.

Next un-built project is the Chicago World Trade Center. I don't know too much about this one so people correct me if I'm wrong on my facts but I believe this was proposed in 1990 with a design meant to look somewhat like the original WTC in New York. I'm not really a fan of how this would of sit in the skyline.

After the original proposal for the Chicago WTC fell through a new proposal came two years later that was even taller. This was designed by Harry Weese, again correct me if my facts are wrong. I thought this one also looked a bit ridiculous in the skyline.

Next is Helmut Jahns proposal for revitalizing the Thompson Center. Personally I love this proposal and think its very Chicago. Looks way better than ASGG proposal. It's probably a long shot but I would love for this to get built.

^^^ Thanks! I make updates as much as I can on my free time.

Next Un-built project is the conservatory tower. This one is a bit crowded so it was a bit hard to get good views of it. if it were taller it could of made a better impact on the river. Could have been the Citygroup center of Chicago.

Next Un-built project is 301 and 312 South wacker. Can you believe 311 was originally going to have 2 more identical twins? Only one was built but man would 3 of them really made an impact.

Next is 29-39 n Lasalle. This look pretty tall next to the chase tower. However with all the other similar, almost identical, Goettsch designed buildings going up all over the city, this one isn't too much a lose.

Next is the Park Michigan. With all the high-rise construction going on in the south loop this would of been right at home. However back in 2008, many thought this tower had no place being as tall as 80 stories at its proposed location.

Next is the un-built 625 West Monroe. I really like the idea of the Chicago skyline pushing west. This building would of really added to the growing Kennedy canyon effect.

So many un-built landmarks! Where do you get the textures for them?

Made lots of updates to the model. Too many to list so I'll just post the shots.

The biggest update is getting all the action that's happening in the West Loop and Fulton Market into the model.

The Mcdonalds HQ, 900 W Randolph, Equinox, Coyne College redevelopment, Union West, and a whole lot of others are now in the model. I'm still missing a lot of developments and proposals but here are some shots.
