My Chicago model

I've posted a few shots of my model in various Chicago threads but I figured i'd make my own thread here.

Long story short I compiled this model in Sketchup so that I could mass out different projects under construction, Proposals, visionary projects, canceled projects, etc. and see how it affects the skyline from any view I wanted.

Side note: I also run a rendering studio in Chicago (link in my sig) so its nice having Chicago in 3d for various views out the windows.

Anyways here's some general views to start. Ill be constantly be updating it and adding detail as well as new projects so stay tuned.

Made lots of updates including getting maps on a lot of blank buildings. I'm not the greatest at mapping in sketchup especially when using multiple renders as the texture. But it gets the idea across.

Heres 9 Walton

One Chicago Square

1000 S Michigan

1000 S Michigan and Wanda Tower

Wanda Tower

More to come soon! Thanks for viewing!

Agree 100%. Since Google Earth refuses to update their 3D renderings from 2013, this is city model catnip for me.

Thanks guys. One thing my model has that google will never have is a layer with canceled projects showing how crazy the Chicago skyline could of looked like. I'll post more of those later.

You must have put a lot of work into this. What is that gigantic goldish yellow building in Grant Park?

Thanks! That was The Illinois AKA the Mile High Tower proposed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Here are some shots of the model with visionary and unbuilt projects. It's kind of chaotic with all of them on at the same time so next week ill post images of them individually.

That was the "Instant City" purposed by Stanley
Tigerman in the 60s.

rgarri4 - EXCELLENT WORK

I recognize most of the failed proposals/fantasy buildings but a few are new to me. Chicago would be unrecognizable if those items had happened.

Now to post some un-built projects into the skyline individually.

Starting with 7 South Dearborn. I remember back when they announced this building I was in high school. I was super excited to hear about a building surpassing Sears as well as taking the tallest building in the world title. I was pretty bummed when it was canceled.

The Miglin-Beitler Skyneedle. Proposed in the late 80s. Ugh this thing would of been such a nice high point in the skyline.

The Mandarin Oriental. I really thought this one would get built. The site is just screaming for something tall. Hopefully it gets something taller planned in the future.

Project 2000. When the striking renderings for this came out I had a feeling it would get canceled. Not a huge loss. At 1968 feet tall it would of made quite the impact. But the design is just okay. You can sorta tell its the same architect that designed 77 west wacker.
