They put up some cinder block walls on the second level more than a year ago. (we might be closer to two years even) Things just stopped at some point- the whole southern side of that level is wide open. Maybe they caught wind of a potential development, maybe they just ran out of money

I have loathed that painted cinder block bunker ever since they put it there.

The elevations look good, the cantilever on the Halsted side makes me hopeful that some of the sidewalk is being reclaimed for pedestrians. That intersection can be a mess, and the pedestrian traffic along lake there continues to increase

No doubt they "caught wind" of it. In the zoning document, it had the breakdown of who owned each property as part of the development. The Paddy O'Fegan property was owned by someone with the last name of Fegan or O'Fegan.

Another drawing in the application shows it quite clearly. There is a driveway for cars that cuts thru the property. There will be 2 entrances next to that, not at the sidewalk section, but inside of the driveway portion. The driveway connects to a back alley (which has the loading docks). Most likely 1 entrance for the Hotel portion with another for the office portion. The sidewalk space will be no doubt for the eating and drinking establishments talked about in the application

920 W Lake Street

I believe the proposal was mentioned here before, but block club has images of the Marriott hotel that's proposed for 920 W Lake near the Morgan stop.

245 ft, 20 stories, 199 rooms, 43 parking spaces.

And now in other big West Loop news - another high rise proposed with a new zoning application.

Introducing 800 W Lake St - a new 265 foot tall building on the corner of Halsted and Lake where Patty O'Fegan's, Publican Quality Bread, Northwestern Cutlery, and the surface parking lot next to that is. This is for ground floor eating/drinking establishments, Hotel, and Office uses. Again, this will also take up the surface parking lot here, but the 2 story building next to Green Street with Momotaro will remain. Across the street from that is the Hoxton Hotel (with Cabra, etc). This would mean 3 of the 4 corners of the Lake/Halsted intersection would be high rises (one of them an office building currently U/C). 0 parking spaces

Developer is North Park Ventures. Architect is GREC.

From Lake Street:

Hotel and office proposal adds to Fulton Market frenzy

North Park Ventures wants to develop a 19-story building at the corner of Lake and Halsted streets in the fast-changing neighborhood.

...

North Park's hotel vision adds to a fever pitch of developers betting there's a lot of Fulton Market hospitality demand on the way. Chicago architect Patrick FitzGerald publicly unveiled a plan this week for a 20-story, 200-room hotel on Lake Street just more than a block west of North Park's site.

Other developers in the past few months have floated proposals for nearly 500 hotel rooms in new buildings on Randolph and May streets in Fulton Market. There are only a handful of places to stay nearby today, including the 159-room Ace hotel and the recently opened 182-room Hoxton hotel. The 119-room Nobu hotel is slated to open later this year.

Office proposals have been just as popular. North Park's project would be across the street from a 750,000-square-foot office building that developer Shapack Partners is building at 167 N. Green St. More office projects totaling several million square feet are under construction or proposed elsewhere in the neighborhood.

It makes sense considering the apartment tower has a new construction building permit already.

Agree. There is some decent design in Fulton Market (coming 800 W Fulton, Fulton East, some others). However - much of it is, regrettably, trash.
