Our next stop was Greenock, Scotland. My dad's aunt and cousins live near Glasgow, so we took the train to visit with them for a few hours. I'll spare you the pictures, but he hadn't seen them in 50 years!

I did manage to get a few pictures from around Greenock, however.

Our next port of call was Djupivogur, Iceland - a town of 500 people on the eastern shore of the country. A popular tour to take is to Vatnajokull National Park, and the Hoffellsjokull glacier.

Akureyri is the largest city in northern Iceland, and the largest in the country outside of the Reykjavik metropolitan area. Travelling south of the city will bring you to an area very similar to the Golden Circle near Reykjavik - full of waterfalls, volcanoes, hot springs, and more.

We headed back through Prince Christian Sound before arriving in the small port of Nanortalik, Greenland. The weather through PCS was awesome, so it looked and felt totally different than the first time.

Nanortalik is a town of 1300, and there were a couple highlights in town. The church was open and the local choir was singing some hymns. There was also a great open air museum containing buildings from 1840, when the town was moved from it's initial founding site a few miles away.

After a taking a day to cross the Labrador Sea, we stopped in St. Anthony, Newfoundland. St. Anthony is the main hub of northern Newfoundland and southern Labrador. Dr. Wilfred Grenfell moved here in 1900, and established a large healthcare network. The Grenfell Properties and hospital still dominate the town.

Nice pictures! I've made it through to your pictures to Rotterdam, but will be looking at the others later.

I like the history that you included with Qaqortok!

That park in Iceland is Thingvellir N.P. Is that what you meant instead of Snorabud?

Thank you! Post #41 was all Dublin Castle. I added that to the post.

For not being a religious country, Iceland sure has some nice churches! That's interesting that there are only 6 Catholic churches. Thank you for that bit of information.

The next port of call was St. John's, NL. I was honestly surprised by the urbanity, the history, the gorgeous harbor, and the beautiful countryside. I will definitely try to come back here for a longer vacation.

Cabot Tower. Construction was begun in 1898 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot's arrival in Newfoundland, as well as Queen Victoria's 60th year of rule. The hill it sits on is called Signal Hill, and Cabot Tower was used for signalling ships. Guglielmo Marconi also received the first transatlantic wireless signal on Signal Hill.
