I don’t understand why that lot has remained borded up and empty after all these years.

St. Boniface Waterworks Tower

If the City of Selkirk can plan for repainting its landmark water tower, surely our St. Boniface Waterworks Water Tower coul be rejuvenated too. It looks terrible. Not sure whether its used or not, but the Wikimedia Commons category says that its got a heritage designation.

Seriously? A heritage hunk of rusting steel? It's not used for anything anymore, as there is no pipe going in or out.

I personally like keeping old landmarks like these. It's a nod to the past and adds some grittiness to an area.

I like old stuff too. But not sure this needs heritage status. Just my opinion.

Isn't the Selkirk water tower still in service? Might be why they're maintaining it.

Edit: Yes it is.

The City is currently tendering Phase 2 and 3 of the ***EDIT*** St Boniface Industrial Park not Packers site*** for site works and infrastructure - civil, utilities, sewer, lakes and land drainage.

That’s great to hear. Thanks for the update.

Interesting. Isn't the land privately owned? Why would the City be tendering, ie: building, that work?

I don't think it's the packer lands. It's off of Mazenod backing onto Plessis, beside the new milk plant.

Isn’t it about the proposal on former Canada Packers plant by Calgary firm Olexa Developments? The city started looking at it at the end of 2019.

^ There's 2 things.

The Mazenod one makes sense. Which is south of CN tracks off Dugald, north of Symington Yard.

Packers land isn't that far along and is owned by that company. They would be responsible for installing all roads, utlities, etc just like any other private development.

Edit: I checked the City website and It's St. Boniface Industrial Park. Not Packers.

Sorry, sorry....my mistake. Surprisingly very busy and I wasn't paying attention. Bomberjet is right, it is St B Industrial Park.

In other news, The city is looking at selling off the old St. Boniface City hall. They were looking for alternate uses, but not sure if it was actually up for sale.

Same with the back piece of property on Dumoulin.

They will retain the land which has the park area and festival du Voyageur office.

that's has been going on for some time, they were pleased with the first set of proposals so it's gone back out. (unconfirmed, but I heard first time was mostly Arts groups asking for free rent)

The building is for sale now though. Before they were only looking for tenants I thought. I wasn't following too closely.
