I actually like the idea of this project and where it is... it will be a cornerstone for developement, plus its right on rail lines... I think that it is a good start to developing a "midtown" district...
if it sticks out for a while.. big deal.. it will just attract more highrise developement... go big or go home ya know? lol

Elite Models? This is looking really good for South Salt lake... literally. I wonder what other types of businesses this will attract!

My wife and I would also love to move next to a trax station but those places are still a bit out of our budget. Every time we go down to SLC my wife wants to take a ride and we plan on riding the train from Ogden at the end of this month. With her from the country she does not like to drive in traffic so mass transit is the only way she likes to travel in SLC when I am not driving.

So we decided to get a nice home in Newton, with .625 acres. Does it suck to have to drive 15-20min into Logan each day for work. yes it does. We do love your space here though. And so everyone will know we bought a 1947 home and did not add another home to suburbia. Why add more when there are so many beautiful older homes to buy and fix up.

I hope the recession isn't killing the idea. It's the perfect location.

I think it could be a few years before we see anything happen with this project.

Wouldn't this project make us more and more like the LA metro? Sporadic areas with towers, not very unified in places.

It is not just South SLC where this is happening. We have a similar dilema in Downtown Richmond. We have 30-story mix use, "upto" 27-story mix use, a 12-story office addition to an existing 14-story office building and God knows what else, are going no where soon. Though there is other investment in our Downtown.

It is not just South SLC. I am sure this project will move forward. Just be patient.

So has there been some update with this project? I was just skimming through the Salt Lake Metro thread while on a lunch break and saw it mentioned that this project is back on track and that the tower has been upped to 27 stories...
Just seeking some confirmation and more info on this awesome thing.

It is amazing that...

Since 10-17-2007 when this story originally sprung up on this board that absolutely zero was done on the South Salt Lake project.

Am I wrong? Did they every clear the land? Was any construction done?

I think there have been some clearing of the site. But that's about it.

Market Station

I live across the street from this project. The developer actually has an office in the 1st floor commercial section of my building. Apparently they lost the equity firm that was putting up some of the financing so they had to find a new partner. From what I've heard they are currently courting someone and they are pretty close to striking a deal. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they are able to start on this soon. The last time I talked to Steve Aste he said they should be able to start the first phase this spring/summer. I'm staying optimistic.

Welcome to the forum!

Do you know what phase one will consist of? Will it center on Main street, facing your building?

Thanks Jmonkey! I'm not 100% certain what the first phase will consist of. I've heard everything from parking (above and underground) to mostly commercial, spa, restaraunts, possibly moving elite model management to their own building. Phase 1 is supposed to start directly across from my building facing main street. They've already cleared a large part of the block and that rickety old bar/grill building will be torn down as well. I also talked to a local artist in my ward that said he was contacted about painting a mural either on some existing fascia or one to be built. I'll keep the updates coming as I hear them. Luckily one of the members of the south salt lake chamber of commerce is in my ward so I can periodically glean info from her hopefully
