I'm jealous of how you can see the top of Winnipeg's skyline before you enter the city.

you wouldn't be jealous if you were driving in from the south or the west.. no view whatsoever! you might as well be driving into Brandon for a better view. the best views of Winnipeg are off of major highways ie: Henderson from the NE, provencher boul. from the east or mcphillipps/route 90 from the Nw. which are not the main through-highways. this city is hard to view!

Ha.. I know you can't see anything from that google maps thing, but trust me, you can see downtown from there (on a very, very clear day!).

Another good spot is the Wilkes overpass on the Perimeter...early in the morning. Watch the road though.

Speaking of views from afar.. when I lived in Regina I once took hwy 33 near Stoughton, south of the city.. and you could see the skyline from so far away. I can't remember where it was exactly.. but it was really far... like 100 km or something.

You can actually see Thunder Bay's skyline from further away than Winnipeg's. But we live in a hilly area, on a shoreline. It's impressive when you consider our tallest building in the part of the city that is visible is only 35m tall.

To the best of my knowledge you can't see the Saskatoon downtown skyline from any of the highways around the city. A small reason is it is not overly tall, but the bigger reason is, as flat as the prairies are, the downtown is built on a fairly substantial valley.

Wouldn't that make it easier to see? It's from the slopes of the Kam Valley that you get the best views of Thunder Bay's skyline.

True, . . . . one can see Regina's skyline from a hell of a long distance away --- even farther if approaching from Highways 1 and 33. It is impressive.

(. . . . and of course, from here, we can watch a dog run away from us for a week! )

I guess it would make it easier if you were looking down at the valley, but in the case of Saskatoon, I think it hinders the view. Its not until you are well into the city that you can see the skyline. And really, only if you know where to look. I assumed it was because of the valley, but maybe its something else?

I guess your valley is narrower? Ours is around 30km wide.
