That's exactly it- cheaper land. Also, that area is prime for redevelopment as its really close to the city center. There are a bunch of available lots south to the airport.

This district originally is industrial area. Well this area will be redeveloped to become CBD. It is a long term plan.

to be honest, this building sounds very successful, and kaohiung city's town planning is getting in a vertuous cycle.

I have been by it several times over the last week and I never see any activity.

I hope it's not on hold, it looks great in the rendering.

It looks like public art and I think it's supposed to be reminiscent of the shipyard cranes, one of the more well-known images of the Ten Major Construction Projects.

hmm.....i'm not sure about all those cross brackets. i hope it looks good when everything's all cladded. i wish it was 20 stories more taller tho!

The plastic membrane is still on the surface, waiting they take out these plastic.

i hope you're right about them going to take off the plastic membranes off the window panels, william. they look too strong and blatant and bright. thanks for posting!

I love how this area being redeveloped is connected to the main CBD in kaohsiung. when this area gets built up, Kaohsiung will have a very impressive and most importantly -cohesive- waterfront skyline

I wonder why Taipei, given it's superior resources cannot have such great urban planning like Kaohsiung or even Taichung.
