I definitely agree! The new rendering has me appreciating the new look more, which I was not excited about it. The 2nd Phase looks great.

@nyguy

Wow. Nice find!

Not finalized. They haven't been boxified yet.

Phase 1 is hardly boxified. What's being built in the Bay Area or anywhere else in the US outside of NY with the quality of Coach and Time Warner? Nothing.

The footprints of the Phase 2 towers are final, and I believe that many of the designs are ready to go.

It appears in the press kit, the cladding for 35 HY will be Gold/Bronz, which will make this pretty special amongst the towers in the Hudson Yards.

I like this. Nature in tune with a hyper urban environment. Fantastic integration of public space. This space being a big portion of the project since its inception. This might give the WTC complex a run for its money in terms of the awe that it will instill when finished. With that said, high line crowdedness will go through the roof.

I doubt there would be any more competition with downtown than you have at Rockefeller Center.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see a gigantic christmas tree with unbelievable lighting during the holidays like we've never seen before.

The photos of the renders are spectacular.
I really like the Gold/Bronz cladding very much!!

I had no idea it would turn out like this and it's really going to expand the density of Manhattan in ways like we've never seen before.

The WTC complex will still draw its massive numbers because of the memorial, shopping, and just the awesomeness of it alone. The rest of Midtown will continue to be midtown, only enhanced by the coming changes, including the area around Grand Central. But the Hudson Yards throws something new into the mix, an extra layer of awesomeness to the whole city. As amazing as it is to watch the WTC being rebuilt, and the transformation of Midtown north (and east) with some of the city's tallest towers, those are already well established locations.

The Hudson Yards, and in particular Related's massive plaza which will be fed by both the High Line and Hudson Blvd Parks, the shops, the observation deck, will add a whole new dimention to the Big Apple experience. But Ross believes it's the massive (and secretive) sculpture that will be unveiled for the plaza that will capture the spirit of the city, a new icon that will be to New York what the Eiffel Tower is to Paris. I don't find that hard to believe either.

It will be the centerpiece of the plaza, visible in many directions as you approach the site.

We are used to the great complexes and cultural institutions of the city as they exist. We haven't witnessed as much their creation. But now we are witnessing a lot of what will be known as the new New York - all over the city. Things that the next generation, and generations after that will take for granted, we are seeing get built right now. And that is something amazing and special.

So the Hudson Yards sculpture will be an icon to New York . .
what the Eiffel tower is to Paris ???? -
Sounds like this Ross developer isn't familiar with both of these cities . .
or just speaks in bombastically gross hyperbole.

Not at all to diminish the great architecture of the magnificent city of Paris . . .
but Eiffel Tower is far and away the Preeminent landmark on the Parisian horizon.
. . . It's a brilliant monument with an optimal sense of presence . . .
second to none design excellence . . and it is to France and even all of Europe . .
if not the world - THE Standard.

So this new icon will be at least on par with Statue of liberty - Empire State Bldg. ? . .
on par with St. Basil's in Moscow - what the pyramids are to Egypt -
what Burj Khalifa is to Dubai ? . . . Ludicrous.

To be fair, to call something ludicrous without even knowing what it looks like is a bit jumping the gun. We shall see and I hope he comes up with something NY can be proud of.

He definitely has my curiosity piqued and looking forward to see what he comes up with...hopefully soon.

. . . mine too Vertical Gotham.
I'd love to see something great here at Hudson Yards.
I just know it can't be "Eiffel-Tower-Great".
Have you ever been to Paris?

My heart leapt as I looked out the window of my cab . .
on a rainy night . . driving fast along a wide curve in a Parisian Park . .
and then - right there . . rising out of the trees . .
was one of the huge illuminated trussed legs . . .
part of the base of the famous tower . .
I thought - "I've seen this tower thousands of times in pictures.
But never have I grasped its gravitas . . .
It makes me proud to be a human being." . .

No one cares about that, and you have no idea what he intends to build. But between the two of you, he's seen it, you haven't. I'll lean more towards his opinion. I may like it, I may not, but it's very conceivable that it will be an icon of significance regardless.

I just walked by. 2 pieces of steel for this appear to have risen above ground level.

Someone from Related told me about 2 months ago that the most current design is not final. There may be some further tweaks, but this appears to be what will rise.
