Three more Hats planned here as well.

Our new/prominent/flagship/landmark library opens soon.

That's maybe the most flattering picture I've seen of the remodel.

The original proposal with clear glass and a sky garden:

Somehow this bait and switch is even worse than Nuera was. At least the light spandrel is less oppressive than this Saruman tower.

To make things worse there is a twin of this under construction with possibly a third down the road.

Behold the inviting streetscape:

Holy shit that’s fugly!

My design Fopa

As a born and raised proud Calgarian who's also lived in these areas, I'm allowed to post this.

I think Calgary is awesome and beautiful.

It might have it's problems and lack certain things but overall it's a great city with nice buildings. Even some beautiful buildings. Getting more vibrant all the time.

Last I checked in January at least.

EXCEPT the areas I marked in red.

I would rather bulldoze those areas and start over or return back to nature and add density to the city instead.
Could save Calgary from the pandemic by providing lots of outdoor jobs. Imagine the new ring road we could create.

Let me know if you think I missed anything or covered something up by mistake!

I'm not including heritage park. And certain other structures.

I present you the map of post Covid Calgary. Good things will come.

West Village Towers in Calgary is truly fucking heinous. Even comically bad, the guys on SRC are panning it hard. We came to the conclusion that, "at least the Cidex head office is only two blocks away so every single day they have to see this megalithic monument to their own mediocrity/repulsiveness."

Kroegerish (adjective): offensive to the sight and/or ears; frightful or hideous; utterly lacking artistic value or beauty; bereft of redeeming features; see also: Kroeger, Chad; Nickelback.

Princess Towers is by far the most powerful of the Ugly Canada beasts.

City's tallest - check
Prominent location - check
Aluminum siding - check
Blank concrete wall - check
Covered in antennae - check
Inexplicable architectural elements - check
Pure evil - check

p.s. also likely the cause of the Calfornia wildfires

Along with Clockzilla, Missingsausage city hall, the Venetian, and this insanely ugly building with no name (below) at Gloor & Dumbdass, Princess Towers ranks with the fugliest edifices in the country.

That Princesses Tower in Kingston really is the most God awful thing.

I will say however that Edmonton's new library is going to be giving a good run for it's money. It looks like a really ugly parking garage and considering it's Edmonton, that's the last thing it needs.

My wife lived at Princess Towers before I met her and I dated a woman for a while who lived in the Bloor/Dundas building. I'm doomed from an architectural vernacular point of view.

Have you seen a place where the roof is bigger than the rest of the building? Can anyone explain what's going on here at this condo in Wasaga? Are the solar panels powering the electrical grid for half the town?

We have a close cousin of the Princess Towers in Ottawa. Not quite as bad, but not far off:

That Edmonton Library makes me really sad. The proposal was weird but the finished product is just gross!

I can't believe this is real. This is beyond a lost opportunity. It's a travesty. Stuck with that monstrosity in the most prominent location for the next 30-50 years. I offer my deepest condolences.
