This project has had three distinct versions. That original with the three rounded towers never felt like a serious proposal. A local developer with no high-rise experience got the site entitled for the towers and eventually sold the site to McCourt Global with a different three tower proposal. McCourt Global eventually sold the site to to WeWork. WeWork had huge plans for the site including their residential WeLive concept before their infamous melt down. The WeCompany held on to the site during their melt down and brought on Lincoln and Kairoi as developers. Last I checked, the WeCompany's NYC address was still listed as the owner of the site.

I believe you’re basing this being “incredibly lame” just by design. There’s nothing lame about it- office, hotel, residential, retail, & enhancing the creek is more of key points than being a new tallest for Texas.

It’s a bit quirky but I love how it’ll appear quite different from certain views/angles. I think this will be one of those projects that will end up turning out to be much better in person

As much as I liked the original proposal- it looks like something that in a few years time would end up being generic because it blends in more with other high-rises around the city.

Looks like it will be a close race between Austin and Miami for which city will join the American supertall club first. Miami's Waldorf Astoria is also in the ground works stage.

I was gonna say Seattle but that's certainly further off, despite being promising.

3 new cities with roof heights beyond 1000 is pretty epic though!

I want to like it, but the proportions are just very odd. That second setback for the upper portion of the tower just...idk, it's just dumb looking to me.

Trailers for construction offices were installed this week. Photo by agsatx in the Austin subforum. Also, per a City permit May 14th is when ROW closures for construction are scheduled to begin.

A bit behind schedule but the new barriers are up.

Hm. This looks like 3 completely different buildings stacked on top of each other.

That's pretty much what it is. The podium is a hotel. The middle section is offices, and the top section is residential. And each use has a separate amenities level.

1 Hotel Austin Set to Open in 2026

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...301561390.html

Quote:
NEW YORK, June 6, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- 1 Hotels, the mission-driven, sustainably focused luxury lifestyle hotel brand founded by hospitality visionary Barry Sternlicht, today announced plans to add a new sanctuary to its global portfolio of premier properties. With properties in New York City (Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park), West Hollywood, Sanya (China), South Beach, Toronto, and San Francisco, 1 Hotel Austin is the brand's entry point into the fast-growing Texas marketplace. The property is being developed in partnership with Lincoln Property Company and Kairoi Residential.

1 Hotel Austin will be an integral component of an innovative mixed-use hotel, residential and retail project currently under construction at the meeting of Waller Creek and Lady Bird Lake. Upon completion, the property will be the tallest tower in Texas and overlook a verdant green gateway to the historic Rainey Street District. Every exterior and interior feature radically reduce the facility's environmental impact and will restore the beauty of nature to a long-neglected creek-side site, conveniently located in the heart of the Lone Star State's cultural, musical and political capital, within walking distance of most every activity that the proclaimed Live Music Capital of the World has to offer.
