Nice pictures again!

I was looking at going to St. John's later in the month (before ultimately settling on Quebec City). If I am in the Niagara Region to visit family, which airport is the best to get to Newfoundland? Person? Toronto City? Hamilton? Is airfare cheaper at Person much like airfare to many places is cheaper from JFK down here, compared to places like Philadelphia?

Pearson is probably best - I believe Porter Airlines no longer flies to St. John's via Billy Bishop, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

Keep in mind it's very expensive to fly to St. John's. You can luck into a seat sale but otherwise be prepared to pay more than you would to go to Europe, etc. When we get a seat sale on direct flights to Dublin or London, it can sometimes be cheaper for us to get to Toronto or Western Canada by flying to Europe first.

If not Toronto, then I imagine Montreal is the best option. There are some connections between us and other cities in Atlantic Canada that are often reasonably priced (by our standards).

Like tomorrow you could get a flight from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to St. John's for $413. It's a 1.5-hour non-stop flight.

We went for a hike a couple weeks ago from Torbay to Flatrock, taking the Church Cove Loop. This is basically the route, but of course it's a coastal trail not the back road:

The hardest part of the trail is on the horizon - you hike pretty much straight along the cliff edge from sea level to the top.

Much of the climb is a rock fall with the rocks arranged as stairs. The white and black trail markers let you know if you're heading the right way.

The little peninsula on the right is called the Beamer. It's a popular spot for teens to practice rock climbing because (I don't know any of the terms) all the metal hooks and things are already in the cliffsides all over the place. Anyhow, it's offten with tragic consequences.

Passed a few Flatrock teens heading out there on our way out. One of the girls was swearing she would not be going down over the cliff no matter what.

Some fall leaves last week:

So our old folk tale here is a lot of dogberries in fall means a hard winter. I've never seen so many. Even the waist-high shrubs are covered.

Saw my second-farthest tourist. Only Alaska was further this year.

Went to a suburban pizzeria.

I looked back at my post from the late summer. I'm still interested in visiting St. John's some time. Who knows when. But I'll have to keep an eye out at relative price ranges. Porter Airlines still flies to St. John's, with connections in Ottawa or Montreal.
