Interesting. It looks like blue-collar Ontario suburbia, but with a little Michigan flavor added.

Interesting photos!

Looking at these makes me think of suburban Milwaukee. In the mid/late 1990s, my sister and her husband lived there when he was going to medical school at MCW, and when I visited them a few times there, we drove through areas that kind of looked like this.

And is that the standard way of spelling "Gyros" in Canada? If so, I like that it's phonetic, and IMO should be the standard spelling in English. It's transliterated from Greek writing anyway, so I don't know how the spelling "Gyros" came to be.

It does look better spelled that way.

Sarnia looks so foreign! (I'm joking, of course.)

You're so good at documenting the ordinary suburban (or degraded urban) landscapes that make up the typical North American city. It's not always the most pleasant stuff to walk through but you make it look compelling.

First time I've seen that. Here in Montreal, gyros is standard, but it's definitely not the dish that gets advertised – souvlaki is the star of any cheap diner owned by Greeks (which is most diners). I'd bet you most Canadians don't even know what gyros is. They'd be more familiar with shawarma or donairs (the Canadianized version of gyros from Halifax).

You can find Gyros everywhere in Ontario, seriously.

I've seen it spelt as Gyros in the parts of Ontario I'm most familiar with.

I didn't know about gyros, it took some time carefully looking at my pictures again to realize what you guys are referring to. Even souvlaki I only ate once, "souvlaki" mostly makes think of the album from Slowdive (one of the best albums ever made).

Thank you, that means a lot coming from you. It was probably seeing one of your photo threads here that inspired me as a teenager to buy my first camera and start photographing cities in the first place.

Some people have accused me of trying too hard to promote certain places, even at the expense of other places, but I think I am always trying to highlight both what is not pleasant and what is compelling, I hope people can see both positive and negative in my pictures, and I am grateful you guys are able to, unlike other forums where I've posted.
