Was taking a pic today and got waved in by the developer to take a peak inside to see what they have been up to. They have columns and concrete floors poured overtop of the old woodwork in order to preserve the rafters. From the pics it looks like the floors will just meet up between the new and the old.
And the developer confirmed there will be no crane for this project.

I think these pictures are an incredible illustration of how the old building is being preserved.

Based on your description of how they are building a concrete skeleton within the old structure, I wonder if they are just using the old floors and floor joists as framing for the new concrete floors; then maybe they will remove the old wood floors after the concrete columns and floors have sufficiently cured?

The old ceilings will be retained. That is part of the aesthetic for the units located in that part of the building. They will have the exposed loft style ceilings with the wood joists visible.

That will be an interesting effect. I wonder if they will clean and treat (varnish perhaps) the exposed floor joists?

I really like what they are doing here. My first choice would have been to retain more of the original building, but this is probably the best option given the scope of the project.

It's soooo much better than ripping it down or, as Drybrain says, turning the facade into wallpaper on a glass box...

Had a conversation with Steve Caryi, the owner the NFB building a few weeks ago and he said most of the background work is done and you should start seeing some real above ground progress in the next month.

It's been a while seen I had looked at the renderings. Looking at the developments listed in the COAST, I noted that the very neat doorway at the south east corner of the old building will be come a large modern window; too bad, I really like that old doorway.
