Just read back in this thread. All the information is here. You just failed to understand any of it (as this comment illustrates). In the last census data 43% of the population in the City of Vancouver were born outside Canada. It's pretty certain that a significant majority weren't born in Vancouver. And are you just realizing that our system of having enough housing for everyone is broken? You understand that 'homeless' means 'without a home'? And as rents keep going up, and we have a shortage of low-cost housing, homelessness will get worse, not better.

Your tortured phrase is possibly correct. It's a myth (or a lie) that most homeless are from outside the city or out-of-province before they became homeless (which isn't to say that they weren't born somewhere else). In Metro Vancouver "70% of those surveyed were in their current community prior to experiencing their current episode of homelessness, dispelling the myth that people become homeless and move to Metro Vancouver for warmer weather or other reasons."

Case: rested. You just live under a rock.
These are random stranger attacks? Or total assaults? Somebody punching his wife, high schoolers having a punch-up, etc., counts as an assault.

Even if true, these cities are all much larger in population than Vancouver.

And random stranger assaults aren't really that common at all in Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal. When they happen, they get attention and coverage.

You hear about them, but not really that often.

Yes, Pivot is part of the problem providing a legal smokescreen for criminals.

A charge of criminal harassment was stayed in a Vancouver courtroom on Friday, in connection to the video of a strange man stalking a woman through the downtown area.

Mohammed Majidpour, 34, pleaded guilty to one count each of assault with a weapon, mischief, uttering threats, and breaking and entering for unrelated incidents in Vancouver and Richmond between January and March of this year.

He received credit for the 180 days he spent in custody prior to the sentencing hearing, which took place Friday morning in provincial court....

So Vin's 'expert opinion' that this was "another case of a drug-crazed zombie" looks like it's totally wrong. It sounds much more like a psychiatric disorder - as "conditions of his probation include attending a forensics psychiatric outpatient unit for treatment".

Sure, that outpatient treatment seemed to work so well, didn't it?

The Left needs to admit some people just belong in an institution.

Who said he didn't? And what has 'The Left' got to do with anything?

The left want them put away in a mental institution. The right wants them in prison.

That's Premier Eby for us plebs very soon. With the only contender being another level wacko, the province is in for a wild ride.

I am okay with this and let them burn, if they burn. Darwin always prevails and you reap what you sow. Not worth anyone's energy to bother think about this.

London's crime stats, for one; it's probable that most cases are "low-level" violence, but with about nine knife attacks a day, it's reasonable to assume things are just as bad on their end.

Also interesting to note how the current situation is already an improvement over London in the Eighties and Nineties. Guess Fred Harding wasn't very good at his job.

The London Metropolitan Police and their statistics cover 9 million people.

Vancouver Police covers 675,000.

Absolutely. The point is how with several times more violence on a daily basis, both are proportional to each other.

Not to worry, someone in Vancouver noted your concern yesterday and is out to stop those dastardly Londoners from winning this contest:

One in custody after ‘unprovoked’ multiple stabbings at CRAB Park, Vancouver police say
By Darrian Matassa-Fung Global News
Posted October 8, 2022

One suspect is in custody after a stabbing spree in downtown Vancouver’s CRAB Park, police say.

Police said officers were on a routine patrol in the CRAB Park area around 3 a.m., Saturday, when two victims fleeing the camp approached the officers for help.

Around the same time, a victim from inside the park called police to report that a man was stabbing people inside the homeless encampment.

“As victims and bystanders fled, police officers converged on CRAB Park, locating a third badly injured victim within the encampment and arresting the 42-year-old suspect as he attempted to leave the area,” said Sgt. Steve Addison....

Only three victims? No deaths? For shame, the Saskatchewan knifeman killed eleven, including his own brother - we'll never beat the record at this rate. /s

Even for a sarcastic pot shot, that was about as insensitive as it gets, Ranting Nut. So insensitive it actually brought the 'Karen' outta me, nice one.

If that's the best you can do with my username even after deciding to play that card, you're already down a couple of points. Take it up with the poster above who turned it into a "contest."

Could I have been more tactful? Maybe. Do we need to use every news article about every police incident in Vancouver to push the hyperbolic Worst City Ever (TM) agenda? Definitely not. Things are evidently bad or worse all over the first world.

Insensitivity knows no bounds. I guess we'll get to that when we start normalizing the worst of situations. It's like saying "Oh it's just a nuclear war far away. Who cares."

As for the Saskatchewan massacre, it all started out with precisely the kinds of issues we have here: the "rotating door" system after one is being convicted of major crimes, as well as liberal drug use. A massacre can happen here anytime, and all it takes is the opportunity, which the City is providing and in a sadistic way, welcoming.

Answer is "Yes", and that's the only reply you need here.

They don't appear to be proportional but even if they were, I don't think that "we're no worse than them" is really something to be proud of or complacent with.

I'd expect our cities (including mine) to take inspiration from the safest places out there, and aim for that.
