The guy standing on the wires of the Golden Gate bridge is astonishing.

Can't believe I didn't see this thread until today. Fantastic photos.

It would be cool to continue this thread with pics of well-known Halifax buildings under construction.

Here's one of Park Vic being constructed in the background from 1966:

For some perspective, the Halifax History website has some good pics of the shopping centre from the 1960s, including an aerial shot of the finished product:

As for bridges, I'll leave it to Ziobrop's excellent blog on the construction of the Macdonald Bridge. Fantastic construction photos there:

Here's a "bird's eye" view from the Bing maps you posted on another thread.

Interesting to see how it has evolved over the years. One of the most striking differences between the two images are the trees lining the streets! What a difference they make. They were just babies in the 60s.

I've been enjoying exploring with these Bing aerial maps, the quality is good and it's always fun to wind back the clock. Still haven't been able to pinpoint a date though, any idea?

Cool! I notice in the upper right-hand corner, the connection to the Bi-Hi overpass looks to be in the process of clearing the land to begin construction. I always thought that was original to the highway opening in 1949. Where did the highway start from?

Soon the Bing views themselves will be historic. The bird's eye data for Halifax is from 2007 or so.
