The layover: Venice Beach and Santa Monica

On the way back from Australia, I took advantage of a long layover to meet up with an old friend and explore Venice Beach and Santa Monica.

Enjoy!

Ah...the life

Santa Monica's building several 5-8 story mixed use buildings, expanding its downtown east and south. On a skyline level, it won't show but you definitely see it activate those streets. It's going to stretch to Lincoln Blvd in a couple years.

Indeed.

My camera died when we headed up into Santa Monica to shop, drink bourbon and Lyft it back to LAX.

This tour was squarely in the zone of the California Coastal Commission, so you generally won't see any large scale projects due to regulatory restrictions. This tour also makes me wish I was at the beach, rather than my work desk right now

The rule is a minimum of 2 new countries and 2 new cities a year, each year.

Interesting to see the amount of people on parts of the beach and the lack of them in other parts, all on the same day!
