I nicknamed this “Black Hole” (due to location)

Jeff Morgan

“Dreaming” by Spanish artist Juame Plensa. Sort of Easter Islands meets Mount Rushmore. 3 storeys high.

"Reclining" - for some reason this sculpture village is redolent of Mount Vesuvius' lava-encrusted figures - note green oxidation at grade, courtesy of local canines no doubt.

Hopefully those cones are temporary!

I have seen crap like this before. Art gets installed, and then someone decides it's a security, and they put in some ugly half-assed security measure that completely ruins the effect.

Forgot to include this one.

“Safe Hands” designed by Israeli-born, UK-based designer and architect Ron Arad. 88 feet tall, stainless steel multi-jointed fingers with ruffled surfaces in spots, and flashes of bright yellow and red.

Like the tactile trip around the Stanley Cup Monument. W walk by this weekend, and the cheap plastic of the strip is chipping away. About half the width is missing in some places.

I think this public realm thread is my favourite on this forum. Shows so much hope for our cities at this uncertain time!

They're all throughout Calgary's riverwalk, and several other parks in the inner city. It's not an uncommon trend at all.

ART: to supplement my earlier post about interesting/goofy/odd public art, U Condominiums hosts this ass.

Public Realm: University of Toronto - Front Campus - KPMB Architects, MVVA and Urban Strategies - site prep

UofT
Site was in prep, but seems to be on pause for the past couple of months.

that theatre in Montreal looks amazing. As for this fountain. Was it not shut off soon after it started operation due to the fact too much spray was making people we at the 4 Season's entrance?

Also I can't get enough of this head. It hurts my brain.
