Design for Worlds Tallest Building Proposed for South Korea
Minneapolis Parker-Durrant presents schematic for offices, mixed development
Minneapolis architecture firm Parker Durrant International has completed the schematic design of the worlds tallest building, a 107-story, 1,620-foot-tall office tower and mixed-use/retail facility planned for Pusan, South Korea. Commissioned by the South Korean-based Lotte Corporation, the 5.7-million-square-foot, steel-and-glass Lotte World II office tower will adjoin a hotel/conference center, a multiplex cinema, an IMAX theater, a department store, and specialty retail stores and restaurants. Initial site work on the construction site has already begun. Completion is expected in 2008. The faceted glass exterior of the tower recalls traditional Korean totemic figures called Jang Sueng, says Principal-in-Charge Stephan Huh, FAIA. In English, Jan Sueng means friendly guardian of the village. As Koreas largest port city and the main gateway to Korea from the south, the design influence is especially befitting.

Hey! It was designed by a Minneapolis firm! Why can't they design something like that for us in Minneapolis? I think it looks like a decent tower.

From a certain angle, it'll look extremely slender.

Amazing, these developements in Pusan. The Korean government must be really focussing on the city's developement... If you compare their current skyline to the one of the near future...

Well, let's hope we will see this Lotto tower rise soon...

I love the new design. The original version of the building was bulky and uninteresting.
