The complex is 16 million sq ft. I believe it is all one building via the common podium.

It is quite impressive. The gigantic size of the clock face definitely diminishes the appearance of how tall the tower actually is.

.......oh sorry, I'm not actually "in the know", just been following along. Maybe someone else should verify this.

I think people (well, I did anyway) underestimated the scale of this building, both with respect to its size and its detail. As others have already mentioned, the clock faces on their own are a new wonder of the world in my opinion.

Reminds me (more than a little) of the giant clock tower in Hayao Miyazaki's Anime Castle of Cagliostro

MODERATOR EDIT = REMOVED QUOTE

I would love this "thing" if not for that stupid clock . I understand why it's there , I understand that it is in fact a rather beautiful clock , and I understand that it does indeed give the building a unique look . We can't really argue those points but the sum of its parts makes this thing a lot less than it should be .

Maybe in a hundred years or whatever , people will automatically say "Mecca" the same way they see Big Ben and say "London". We can only hope so anyway .

It reminds me a bit of some of these Las Vegas casinos. It's a tough one to love, no doubt, but its massive size nevertheless inspires respect. In one word, stunning.

That's a beautiful picture, this massive thing will definitely become a symbol. Although it does look like an oversized Big-Ben.

Oh my God, those photos from that Ahmad guy are simply incredible. I would absolutely love to go to Mecca and be able to photograph the city.
