Now that you mention it, the ones at Walmart were smaller than what I'm used to seeing. I prefer the bigger ones... there's a lot less peeling involved. But I don't think I've seen a 5 pound sweet potato anywhere, though!

They're about the size of a watermelon, it's insane. I never buy them, you'd need a sword to cut them in half. I have no idea who they're for.

Like, what even are these?? They're not even the biggest, I've seen the occasional one that's nearly twice the size of the largest one there.

Looks like you'd need a saw or a hatchet to cut some of those up.

I'm assuming that the Downtown BIZ Enviro-Team is on hiatus right now... if so, I am appreciating their work more than ever. There is way more litter and grit around downtown than I ever recall seeing before... maybe the high winds last week didn't help because it was swirling around so much, but it is pretty bad even by spring standards. What a mess.

^ They are still around. I see them along Portage walking to work in the mornings. They have probably cut back on hours though.

It probably takes them a bit more time to clean up after someone spent the night or whatever in and around a bus shack.

City cleanup crew was doing a deep clean on Garry Street @ Ellice last night, like a dozen people literally scrubbing the sidewalks. I've never seen the street as clean as this. So there is hope!

Our street out in the burbs just got done. Best job I have seen them do.

It’s definitely extra dirty right now, likely a mix of how windy it’s been, and how early that first dump of snow came... a lot of the final fall cleanings didn’t get done. Some sidewalks and streets in the exchange still covered in leaves and dirt from the big storm. City crews that would normally be doing fall cleanups were redeployed to focus on the emergency tree cleaning.

Come to think of it that brutal October storm should have been a warning of what 2020 was going to bring.

ICYMI a few forum members are in the middle of a design competition for the Burton Cummings Theatre site and the lot across the street from it... some interesting concepts being worked through right now

Good question... I guess the combination of location, unusual shape combined with the presence of a heritage theatre made for an interesting design challenge!

I am all for supporting shelters and women's centres, and always think the city could be doing more – but Kevin Klein wanting to turn the former cafe space at city hall (Grace Cafe) into a women's shelter is about the most ridiculous idea I've ever heard

Yeah, it's nothing more than cheap political showboating... that story made me roll my eyes when I read it this morning. And when the idea gets rightfully dismissed on the grounds of being dumb, Klein will shrug his shoulders and say to them "gosh darn it I tried, I don't know why those bad guys said no"

There are so many organizations in this field doing great things, support them more if that's what you really care about. It's extremely tone deaf to think that people coming from situations of sexual abuse, prostitution, etc. are going to feel comfortable going to get help at city hall, surrounded by suits and cops.
