17 Story Apartment Building Proposed for 5 Points S

....
-The Birmingham Design Review Committee today approved a conceptual proposal for a 17-story project that would bring nearly 200 new apartments to Five Points.

-Construction is expected to take 18 months, according to sources at the meeting. Work could begin as early as the fourth quarter of 2017, which would put the project on track for completion in spring 2019.
This think would be pretty prominent, as this parcel is the beginning of the plateau at the top of the hill.

wow, certainly didn't see that one coming. this will be near the new proposed bowling alley / entertainment venue too.

hope this doesn't affect vesta, although I think I'd rather have this one tbh...

conceptual design approval received from the DRC today.

pretty cool that the green space is open to the public:

"The project is called Lakeview Green largely as a nod to a large green space in the middle of the site that's intended to be open to the public as well as the residents with amenities like bocce ball and giant jenga.

"The landscaped portion in the middle of the site is intended to be a communal place for both the residents and the local Lakeview populace," Architect Patrick Lancaster said."

BBJ has a story behind its pay wall about a 115,000 SF medical office building with a 12 story parking deck planned for the Park Side district.

Construction crews are now on the scene at one of the most anticipated projects on Birmingham's Southside.

.......

The 17-story project will add 318 apartment units, as well as retail space and a parking deck, to a neighborhood that is seeing a surge of activity. A number of developers have recently purchased property in the area, due in part to the anticipated redevelopment of the Southtown public housing project.

.............

The value of the project was previously estimated at $53 million.

Harbert Realty's Dean Nix told the Birmingham Business Journal on Friday that some light work has already started at the property and a formal groundbreaking will occur in the coming weeks.

The project is expected to take between 16 and 18 months to complete.

Drove by the Vesta work-site yesterday, earth has been moved, and work is officially underway! At least three pieces heavy excavation equipment are on the lot fronting Highland Ave.

Work is well underway at the 17 floor Vesta apartment building in Five Points.

Additionally, today I saw visual evidence of construction at the 3rd phase of 20 Midtown which is expected to introduce 300+ apartment units in what would be considered Birmingham's 'Midtown'.

I've been waiting for this project to start for 3 1/2 years and it is finally starting. Could someone send pics? Unfortunately I don't live in Birmingham anymore. Anyway, do you guys see parkside and midtown following suit with some high-rise apts? Also is there going to be any development that would connect Avondale with the rotary trial?

Parkside? Yes. One being planned. Perhaps two. Not sure about Avondale.

Do you mind divulging any information you have on the Parkside projects? Unless you're referring to the proposed tower on 20th St. in Five Points?

B'ham Bound is probably referring to 20 Midtown's Phase 3 that is currently under construction across 20th from Publix.

Sorry about the slow response. Can't share much. But project still on last I was told. Heart of the Parkside district.

Not that one. But waiting to see some vertical construction with 20. Anxious.
