It's approved and under construction, so I'm not sure how that would happen. Plus it is firmly inside of a max FAR zone. It's a done deal, unless there's an economic or engineering disaster, both of which are unlikely.

Yeah, as a matter of fact, I don’t recall hearing much noise about the rise of this one. Most likely due to the fact that it only needed Landmarks approval.

"Brooklyn's version of the Empire State building",
"a beautiful tower", "This is gonna be epic",
"my favorite under construction NYC building!",
"most interesting & game-changing NYC tower currently going up",
etc., etc. . . lots of favorable posts from you guys . .

the initial rendering had a very unusual, irregular, awesome crown . .
later renderings seem to have casually eliminated that aesthetic complexity
. . so, I don't know the exact features of the crown as of now . .
but, with 9 deKalb's great tower proportion, setbacks, and being the
borough's tallest, a distinctive crown is requisite . .
Excellent crowns were imperative for WTC 3 & CPT also, but both blew it . .
hope 9 deKalb doesn't cheap out where refinement is needed most . .

It's a little different in the newer renderings, but still fabulous.

Comparison...

the first render looks like a sketch idea and the more current looks like what can actually be physically and practically built.

not seeing anything to worry over, it looks awesome.

The first rendering is what was officially presented. Like anything else, the building has just been refined, nothing to worry about.

But both are a long way from this, the first early idea of what we were getting...

We're getting a supertall in Brooklyn. And a beautiful one at that. No complaints here.

I like the earliest many spiked tapering crown the best . .
makes for a magnificent medieval forested peak of a silhouette . .
like powerful architecture uncontained, shooting up beyond
the tall slender tower's uppermost limit . .
lengthier spikes better than niblets . .

the following, more boringly "practical" crown
is more generic, still better than average . .
& then, the above line-drawing-rendering, looks as if the
tower rises to finish off, into rectangular floor-plan configuration,
which would be outright boring . . I sure hope not . . but there may
be some foreshortening of perspective going on there, in which case,
we're thankfully spared . .

I do hope that the bronzey coloration of 9 deKalb
is accurate . . that would definitely be a
splendid aspect, indeed . .

That doesn't matter to NIMBYs.

the earliest version and the current version look very practical, meaning like they can be built. i know it was the formal unveiling for this project and it was quite a stunning debut, but there is no way that bridge render could be built to look like that. its a very gotham idea that lead to the current buildable version.

You're talking about this version? What about this can't be built that could with the others?
