German Village – a short glimpse of this charming Columbus neighborhood

I spent a few days back home in Ohio this past weekend and decided to walk around German Village one morning. This is by no means an exhaustive tour, just a glimpse of what I saw while out & about in this charming Columbus neighborhood.

1. First stop, Fox in the Snow, for coffee and a breakfast sandwich. Love this place!

Columbus' inner-ring neighborhoods around downtown (German Village, Arena District, Victorian Village, Short North... etc...) and definitely one of the strongest elements of the city. I used to absolutely love walking around German Village. The Book Loft is one of the greatest book stores I've ever visited... and Shakespeare in the park at Schiller Park can't be beat. I always thought it was especially charming during the fall when the leaves were changing colors.

Great photos!

I was actually in Columbus this past weekend. We may have crossed paths! I will be posting a photo thread soon too.

Great pics, thanks for posting - this was the standout area of Columbus for me the one time I visited in 2019.

Totally agreed! In such a cool building too. It's kind of like being in the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum . . . but with books for sale instead of a private art collection.

Needs more brick

German Village is special. It's definitely quiet and fairly small, but it's a really intimate and unique built environment, and I like how the businesses are scattered throughout the neighborhood rather than clustered in a business district. Kind of the opposite model of Columbus' other standout neighborhood- The Short North, where everything revolves around High Street. Would love to see a rail line link German Village, Downtown, the Arena District, Short North, and OSU's campus one day.

Wow! I've heard of this neighborhood but never seen it photographed so extensively. It looks like it's out of a storybook.

Beautiful pictures! German Village is a gem of a neighborhood and edale nailed it regarding how lucky Columbus is to have two fascinating, but very different neighborhoods on either side of downtown.

So charming and unique! It doesn't look like anything else and it seems a very place to live, urban and on the same time idyllic.

Thank you for sharing, OhioGuy!

Thanks for this. Parable is a neat spot for Parsons' revival.

Great looking place and very tastefully maintained homes. Cobblestone streets are a nice touch.
