Saw where Mobile could get Amtrak. Would be huge for a growing city. What sort of benefits would amtrak bring to Mobile?

Just connectivity. Ever since Amtrak left Mobile after Katrina, if you wanted to ride the train you needed to go to NOLA to do so. With Amtrak coming back hopefully, it would reconnect what was lost after Katrina. Would be nice to catch the train for old times sake.

Don't forget the new addition to the OK Bicycle Shop...
The world famous War Eagle Supper Club shot bus from Auburn
They plan on building a deck around the bus, and put it by a pecan tree in the Union parking lot.

What's all happening? I've heard some sad news that they're removing some beautiful oaks downtown.

Here's a recent downtown investment "report" I added on the city data forum:

"A few downtown updates:

-Chick-Fil-A moving into Battle House Parking Garage
-Convenience store going into 1st floor of Trustmark Tower across hall from said Chick-fil-A's current location
-Chuck's Fish opening in October
-Several new apartment developments in several 10-15 unit buildings, including one in the Temple building mentioned earlier in this thread
-Staples-Pake renovation has started, includes space for at least 15 residential units on top floors and 5 retail spaces on ground floor
-Meridian at the Port (264 apt/condo units) work to start with on-site demolition in August
-Design ongoing on converting median of Water Street into a walking/biking destination
-Federal Courthouse steel structure is about 30% complete
-Mardi Gras Park nearing completion of first phase
-Hilton Garden Inn on Bienville Square currently under construction is accepting reservations starting in March
-Wet Willie's interior renovation work has begun
-"Paparazzi's", a new club, is opening in old Studio 54 location
-Ft Conde Village hotel on hold
-old Catholic Social Services building now for sale - would love to see this bulldozed or re-done
-Duck Boats begin downtown tours this week
-1065 music festival returning - details still unclear"

Some of the oaks were removed, but none of the nice mature ones. The vast majority of them are still standing and will stay that way. The ones that were removed were young (50-70 years old) and were disturbing building foundations and sidewalks.

Thx for the link. I just took my little time to street view the area up to downtown that's not far at all... Oh, you know, just out of curiosity. Assuming one would walk the distance (yes, on foot) in say, a few minutes.

Certainly.

Not to mention the new redesign of Water St should make walking and biking to all areas on the east side of downtown much easier.

Thanks SouthSky! I really shouldn't complain much about the lack of activity on the Mobile thread, especially since I was the one that took on the task of creating Birmingham's City Compilation thread...

Great news though!
