"Turning over earth is one of the most ordinary things that happens at the Chicago Botanic Garden. But sticking shovels into ground to get started on a
new, 25,000-square-foot building at the Glencoe nature park is much less usual.
With a scheduled groundbreaking Thursday, work on the garden's new, $26 million Regenstein Foundation Learning Campus will begin. The garden will be on its way to having a home for its great variety of plant-based education programs, including a new, nature-centric preschool, and its campus will be another step closer to complete.
'The demand for our programs we see continuing to rise, whether that's school programs, adult programs, demands for masters and Ph.D classes,' said Sophia Shaw, the garden's president and CEO. 'We needed to create more space in order to meet it."
