São Paulo - Old downtown - my pics!

As everybody knows, sao paulo is one of the largest cities in the world. Being a big city in a developing country, of course there are many structural problems.
In this thread I'll show you to old São Paulo downtown. I mentioned the structural problems because with the rapid development of Brazil the city suffers a huge property speculation and this means that builders develop new areas and the city directs investments to those areas leaving behind old areas.

This results in decay of old city areas as for lack of laws to protect historical places.

That's what happened to old downtown of São Paulo during years and years.

Today things are changing and our leaders pressed for the civilian population and by architects, engineers and agencies that protect the historic heritage are creating projects for regeneration of whole areas in the city center.

I hope you enjoy the thread

Tchello, is this old building, squeezed between the 2 modern glass blocks, the oldest "skyscraper" in São Paulo, or îs this another building? (I am not talking about Martinelli or course)

btw, the old downtown is the most interesting part of the city imho. Too bad its abandoned by the big companies and such, so there is not many (not not say none) shining new skyscrapers around.

I hope this will change with Foster´s project for the Mooca area, with its 20 buildings 200 meters tall (and taller)

epic and awesome... I changed flights at Sao Paulo on my way from London to Buenos Aires and flying over the city I really had a sense of how enormous it was - I've never seen such a vast mega-city - truly mind boggling (and Buenos Aires is pretty enormous itself)...
