But the building it self has some structure and class to it, at least it isn't just a block with windows.

I said 1920's because it kind of resembles some of the crowns and style that came from the era.
I remember when it was first built. Correctly labeled the Pepto Bismal building.

Call me uncultured if you like but I never had a problem with Symphony House and in the time it was built (2005?), a hugely bold proposition to build something that big, that far south.

In reality, this is how the building is experienced by people. They could have done much worse.

FWIW I pretty much completely agree with you...

It’s really not that bad. Different color sure, but not that bad

you're uncultured.
for something that is, as you say, "big and bold", you'd hope for something more than "it's not that bad, they could have done worse."
I like the fact that they included a theater, kind of a no-brainer for the avenue of the arts, but the rest of it is a pink pepto piece of shit.

I remember some talk back in the day that the pink color would eventually age into a more charming color

I will add this as well, at least it has some texture and some interesting geometry going on unlike all the sheer wall, glass boxes going up everywhere. For example, I wouldn't swap out SH with one of the Riverwalk towers. No way.

"aged pink" doesn't sound too attractive (as a color, I don't mean the singer). It probably becomes a grey or muddied reddish color. blech.
but even the massing of the building is disappointing. it's another of these buildings that is twice as wide and half as tall as it should be.

Maybe I'm just easy to please but I really like the Riverwalk towers lol. The renderings are kind of meh but in person I think the one that's basically finished looks fantastic. (Sorry for going super off-topic... Arthaus construction is coming along well, though!!)

You're right.
The base is nice. The crown just seems unresolved and the color is unfortunate

Me too. Their replace a parking lot and are solid looking buildings. Not sure where the harsh criticism comes from...I especially like the black trim and the second tower on an angle adds to their presence.

I think most of the new towers under construction are nice looking. The Laurel, Arthaus and River Walk. Its the lower rise ones that make my eyes hurt (not all, but a fair amount of them).

I wish Arthaus still had the hotel component though. An SLS brand in Philadelphia (or similar) would have been great.

So I took a long detour on a walk the other day to go check this thing out. I feel stupid for not taking any photos lol, but I have to say this thing is turning out pretty sweet. The glass looks great in person and the building is just exactly what that block of Broad needs to feel much more legit. I suspect this building will increase the property values of the whole block around it over the next few years by a respectable bump. It's a really legit and high quality new high-rise. Seems to look and feel the part, which is not something every new project can say. I'd compare the quality of construction to a mix between the BNY Mellon Center (most underrated Philly skyscraper imho) and the Independence Blue Cross Building. Good stuff, nicely executed thus far.
