Downtown Dartmouth

So the last week I've spent a lot of time bumming around downtown dtown taken pics for a project, and just for the hell of it. So I thought I'd share. I also got a new camera for christmas and this is my first real good use of it.

Nice new paint job for Queens Square

The lovely Admiralty Place designed by Arthur Erickson

Then new patio for La Perla

I never quite really understood these, but I do love them.

This makes it look like the downtown might actually be dense?!

Hey look! It's me.

The site that I'm studying for my urban design class.

New Crane!

Saint Peters' bell tower.

Sullivans pond with it's measly little winter fountain.

You can see this new crane from all over the area.

Queens Square looming over the hill.

There appears to be signs of life in this graveyard.

Alone for eternity.

Metropolitan Place gazing down on the commons.

The harbour looked like it was about to freeze. Nice view of Spice too.

They do say the best part of Dartmouth is the view of Halifax....hopefully that will change soon.

They should really look at getting a new flag.

There it is again.

I'm excited to see this view in a year or two!

Saint James

Founders Corner site.

A new restaurant going up beside Founders Corner.

A half finished paint job.

The ever necessary parking structures taking up nice valuable land!

One of the few interesting modern architectural features in downtown Dartmouth.

I'm so glad they decided to paint!

It would appear a light bulb needs replacing.

Metropolitan Place standing guard on the top of the hill.

Hope you all enjoyed!

Great shots Jono. Downtown Dartmouth does look quite dense in some of those pictures!

A few shots from this week in the lovely sunny weather.
Enjoy.

A seniors complex on Ochterloney Street.

A reflection of said seniors complex.

Queen's Square. Still waiting for them to finish the new paint job.

Two interesting angles of Alderney Gate.

Metropolitan Place seen from Halifax.

The new NSCC, also seen from Halifax.

What I believe is work starting on the newest building for the new NSCC campus? Anyone know for sure?

I coulda swore I replied to this thread, I must've been in a hurry and lurking.

Anyway, nice photos Jonovision, and nice additions too! Good to see some Dartmouth representation here.

Yea they are, I'm actually a student there, the construction has caused nothing but headaches so far, I hope they get it running a little smoother. I'll be taking my camera with me to class on Tuesday and I'll be starting a new thread for the construction of the new half of the campus here.

Here's a few shots I took today from my office window in Queen Square:

First, a view looking towards Dartmouth Cove. The corner of King and Queen streets is visible on the left hand side. The RBC building is at the right, and Marine House at the corner of Portland and Alderney is near top-left.

Up next is a view towards Victoria Road; the intersection of Victoria and Park Avenue is near the center of the image. The roof of the King Street fire station is at the very bottom, and the tops of The Horizon and The Summit apartment buildings next to Mic Mac Mall are just visible at the very top of the image.

And finally a view looking up Ochterloney Street; Founders Corner is of course visible right behind the church, and who could miss the crane. The yellow building on the right is the Super 8 Motel, previously a Howard Johnson before a major renovation last summer. Lake Banook is barely visible just above the end (left side) of the crane. The former Starr manufacturing plant lands, which many people here agree could have been developed better, is just to the right of the crane.

I used to have a desk on the opposite side with a view of Halifax, but to tell the truth with the activity in Dartmouth right now, I much prefer being on this side!

Thanks for the pics. I'm really unfamiliar with downtown Dartmouth so these are all the more interesting.

Not really trying to bump this thread. I haven't seen a post from Hfx_Chris in a long time. If you do still read this forum or have a new name could you please take these same angles again? It would be cool to see how Kings Wharf has effected the first and how Founders Square changes the outlook in the second picture.
