there were more difficulties constructing the anish kapoor bean for 56 leonard than there were for the chicago sky cloud, but last i read in the tribeca citizen it is supposed to be installed sometime this fall. we have to be on the lookout for it!

This article from last February sheds some light on the delays and the complex process of fabricating the sculpture. I can't imagine it should take too much longer to complete...

Does this structure have any retail? I'm not impressed by the project at all (it's not something I would appreciate), but I'm sure I'm in the minority.

The site for the Bean is all ready, but hasn't been installed, yet. I'm eagerly anticipating the reveal.

New York will soon get its own shiny Anish Kapoor sculpture
The artist’s first permanent work of public art in the city will be installed at a Herzog & de Meuron-designed high-rise in Tribeca

WALLACE LUDEL and HELEN STOILAS
31st October 2019

Quote:
Alexico Group, the development firm behind Tribeca’s 60-storey “Jenga Tower”, a Herzog & de Meuron-designed residential high-rise at 56 Leonard Street, announced that it will start installing a public sculpture by Anish Kapoor commissioned specifically for the building in the second week of November. The “enigmatic balloon-like form” as the developers describe the 40-ton, 48ft-long, 19ft-high work of art in a statement, “will seemingly both prop up the building and be squashed by it”. Jutting out from the base of the tower and onto the sidewalk, at the corner of Church Street and Leonard Street, the as yet untitled sculpture is expected to “become a must-see destination”.

“We are excited to be starting the installation of this work that completes our vision for 56 Leonard in Tribeca and will draw arts and culture lovers to its magical seamless surface,” Izak Senbahar, president of Alexico Group, said in a statement. The path to realising the sculpture has not been easy, however. Designs for the work were first released in 2008, but fabrication was delayed due to challenges in finding a cost-effective way to join the metal sections of the work while ensuring a flawless finish.

What if the bean pops out due to the pressure of the building and goes flying into the building across the street?

THE BEAN HAS ARRIVED AND IS GOING UP !!!!

i met met a pack of brits from mtec art installation tonight at a tribeca happy hour watering hole and they are in the midst of installing the bean. i havent walked by lately, but they showed me pics of how its going. there is a bunch of scaffolding up and half a bean on a flatbed truck out front. they said dont worry about any seams showing or any of the problems that happened with casting it all has been fixed. they install anish kapoor’s work exclusively, along with other big artwork. they showed me the previous gig they finished, which was installing big sculptures in bazillionaire larry ellison’s maui hawaiian paradise estate. anyway, they had no eta on when it will be done exactly, because its too hard to say, but its ON now, so soon enough we will get beaned.

i am greatly pleased that at long last we are at the finish line of all this beanery.
