No new renderings yet, sadly, but the old ones are down.

New renderings are now up. Little less detail then last time, but it looks like an improvement.

Those are the ones. Much better then what was up before. I love the pedestrian cut through to Dresden Row and the full separation of the two towers. And the reworked massing on the corner tower is much more appealing.

According to this media release, the proposal has been submitted to HRM planning. I checked the planning website, nothing has been posted yet, but when they are more detailed elevations should be available. Good to see they are being rather agressive with this.

I like it a lot.
The 1st slide really demonstrates the positive impact at the street level of the step backs. To be honest, at 1st (from that perspective) I thought they had dropped the height of the whole project until I realized that it was just the step back that made it appear not as big at street level.

I like how the rooflines of the two buildings match up on the same plane, and then appear to continue on and meet the Paramount.

The renderings look very impressive.

Any expected start time?

I love the facade and corner of the YMCA, and the pedestrian walkway, but as for the rest of it, I'll have to see more detailed renderings... I did like the shape and the black/red style of the original CBC tower, and the fact that the towers were two different designs. This new layout has a lot of potential though!

Agreed. Could be good, could be cheapest finishings known to man and look awful.

After everything this approved they still need to find a developer to sign on to actually build the project.

I think that this project looks like a fantastic development. It will look great from the Citadel Hill. Here is one rendering taken from the YMCA website.

The CBC building isn`t bad but the YMCA building needs a complete rework.

If the materials are right - I think this will be awesome. But I need to see the materials and a full rendering in detail.

It will look different with the windows drawn in. Hopefully it will keep getting better.

Thanks! I've been wondering about this for some time. I even went looking for evidence of what the building may have been for some time and all I was able to find was this old overhead shot that I blew up from an aerial pic of the Citadel (around the fifties, I believe) on the NS archives site:

I asked around and people generally seemed to think it was a service station, but a dealership seems more reasonable to me, as the building seems to be more elegant (and much larger) than I'd expect a service station to be. You can see cars parked on the roof as well as the lot on the other side of Sackville St. Plus the larger windows on Sackville Street look like they could have been used as a showroom back in the day.

I'd love to see some closer pics of the building in its dealership livery, but I've been looking for a while and haven't come up with any yet.

Personally, I'll be sorry to see it go (I have a thing for old service stations and dealerships) as I was to see Citadel Motors, the 20s-era Irving Station on Sackville St. and the old Teasdale and Foote building on Prince Albert Rd in Dartmouth... but oh well, I guess my loss will be others' gain. It would be cool if somebody could do some kind of survey of the building before it's ripped down...

Anyways, thanks for solving the mystery for me.

I agree -- it seems a little too vague to make any overall comments. I like the corner YMCA component and the path connecting to the lane is a great idea.

The roof of the southern building looks too bulky to me but could appear much better in a more detailed rendering. The same can be said for the whole tower really.
