The mullions on the 57th profile and the transoms on the Park-facing side, for all their supposed monotony, are spaced/designed as if to create IMO the illusion of slightly convex/concave surfaces respectively.

I understand your feeling there, but i think it will begin to harmonize the more the form of the tower's tiers "step back". You can see there is an element of that playfully being used in the simplicity of just the framework of the window widths on the glass facade side.

This thing will be freakish for sure. Its only gonna get more slim as it grows even higher!

^I'm wondering if that moiré patterning (terra cotta side) is present in person too. I'm guessing it is. Which is really sweet; I was hoping that would be a present effect. Very neat.

I’m honestly still kind of in awe of this project sometimes. Not only are we getting a tower of almost prewar quality, but also a full restoration—not a tacky facadectomy—of a historically significant building. SHoP and JDS have really set the standard here that every other architect and developer should aspire to.

It looks great. The purists will hate the "thinness", but who cares? The facade is wonderful and the setbacks awe inspiring.

This tower has always been more Woolworth than Chrysler to me, but looking at it today from a distance down 57th Street, you can see that the facade will still be shiny. It has more of a Chrysler feel from a distance. And now we are getting to that fun part where the setbacks will increase with the height, until there is nothing left. That's the feature that will define this tower on the skyline.

For me, it resembles a very slim nod to the original twin towers.
Those vertical lines have been done many times before I know.
We will judge when it's all done and see for ourselves how the sunlight reflects from the surface of the vertical wall.

yes definately a woolworth/stern towers type of vibe.

walking by yesterday what struck me up close is the amount of ceramic up there now.

all those panels of stacked bolted up tiles are quite something.

and being only partly done its almost frightening in a way.

at least this point in time of construction.

it's like, can it all just peel off from the weight?

it will be a relief to see the setbacks.

For the $ and the unobstructed viewpoints from up there, I'd be yearning for more of those sunset/western views than the little cutouts are offering. I suppose at that height, that amount of concrete is necessary, but I'd want to punch through my western wall and get more sunset into my pad.
