Sorry guys! Summer school sessions blow! I'll try my best to get an update before July 27th.

Go to google.com and type in "sketchup", it will be the first link.

Huh, thats a good technique, I just make a hugeass white square, and then just draw the city layout on. Due to Staunton's sexy curves I cant use that techniqe anyways.

I usually make a huge white square, make the city's land details, put in a squarish grid like fox's, and then readjust/tweak the city's boundaries to fit the roads I put in. I'm not big on putting curvy or odd-shaped roads in, I like having an easy layout to use.

I always start with boundaries, and then create grids to adequately fill it. There are several different grid patterns for City City, originating with the Old City's winding, Boston North End style streetscaping. The Financial District is a corrupted grid, where the blocks are reletively the same size but the streets wind around a bit for dramatic effect, and the Wedding District is just a standard, strict block. The Gold Coast area will be that same 'standard block' but rotated to apply to geography, and as the city advances towards lower density, the blocks will become more shapely for their land use/location.

It's always important to note that no city has a perfect grid, even if those 'imperfections' aren't obvious. Compare a downtown Chicago block to an Evanston or Oak Park block; while the streets of both grids correspond, the block sizes are still different.
