this will be the new suburban sw r&d building in brecksville -- they said they needed a lot of long, flat space for new paint r&d and parking, so it went to the burbs:

oh well.
Well, we knew it would be nothing flashy considering the firm. But I like it, it'll compliment what's around it. Only thing I don't like is the large amount of above ground parking. I do think it is odd that they're only constructing a two story building in front of it though. Definitely an under-utilization of prime space.

To bad they couldn't have found a spot in postwar Cleveland proper or an old inner suburb for this.

it's less nothing flashy and more lazy off the shelf outer loopy.

maybe some nice glass can save it all from utter banality.

The design for the tower is alright. I really wish they'd flip sites for the tower and the lowrise. It'll be a nice addition to the skyline though and its about time those lots were filled.

yeah many of us do too as that was thee prime tower site for cleveland, but i believe they said they switched to allow more afternoon light on public square and that makes some sense too.

Two cheers for the impersonal, corporate design of Sherwin-Williams’ downtown Cleveland skyscraper

"The biggest challenge facing the Sherwin-Williams design is that it’s one of a number of new, glass buildings rising around town that could have been designed by the same firm. They reflect the reality that in many ways, architecture is becoming increasingly corporatized."

It’s a pretty lame design, but anything works in most US cities outside of New York and to a lesser degree, Chicago. If this were the design for 2 WTC, the Grand Hyatt site, 36 CPS, 15 Penn, etc., people would go utterly ballistic. In a place like Cleveland, though, people are elated to get a new tower. Moreover, I guarantee that this building was reported by every Cleveland television news channel and paper.

For that matter, Charlotte, Atlanta, Nashville, etc. were vying to have SW relocate to their downtowns, and had it, those cities would have hailed it as a validation that they’re now important, “real cities.” They also would have gone bananas over this tower.

It's great to see a significant addition to one of the country's big cities. The design looks pretty tasteful. Not overly flashy but with some interesting details and a new color palette for the skyline.

its true and locals are generally saying that. a glassy building in the mix around public square is not a bad idea at all. if they use nice glass and good design and construction that will make all the difference looks-wise.

i hope to see final renders that are not fuzzy before they get started though. i think we will get that pretty soon.

Very nice addition. This will really bulk up the skyline. Love the glass facade.
