Oh yeah, they have to. The city is very particular about trees downtown. They will also have to replace the granite pavers.
Yes the Granite Pavers that run throughout downtown, to create a consistent theme throughout the downtown area. The same pavers that are on Main Street two blocks north between S. Temple and 100 S, yes the same pattern that runs in front of CCC.

Correction, the granite pavers which run along Main St, between South Temple and 400 S. The rest of downtown seems to be a jumble of about eight different styles, which I'm sure the city mandated at one time or another to create a 'consistent theme' downtown.
Photos from this morning. While at the site, I asked about the steel and the guy I spoke with said that he spoke with the crane operator this morning about it and that he was told it is starting very soon. I would think that we could see some steel starting this week. Keep your fingers crossed.
Here's the west wall of the project.
Sidewalls wrapping up shortly. They are looking very nice. Turning out better than I had imagined.

Yes Monkey I realize the pattern runs from S. Temple to 400 S. I was just pointing out that, per the CCC pavers discussion, that the pavers are the same at 222 and at CCC thus why CCC should not be allowed to disrupt the Main St paver pattern.
Very nice updates. I can't wait to get down there for my weekly photos. I am going down there Friday evening to grab some shots this time. Quite the changes in a week.
I was just checking out the web cam and there's about 10-12 steel beams that are in place already.
Finally after many, many years we are starting to see the 222 South Tower rise from the ground!!!

Okland Construction workers begin placing steel sections for the 22-story 222 South Main Street tower, which will change the skyline of downtown Salt Lake. (Scott G. Winterton, Deseret News)

Looks like the 222 South Main won't open till late Fall or Winter of "09"
"At the beginning of next year, workers will begin putting precast glass on the backside of the building, and in the early fall of 2009, they will start to put the glass on the Main Street side, Strasser said."
