These were the guys trying to get a demolition permit with a splashy rendering from a Toronto developer for the fortune block. They ended up outbidding the developers of the pumphouse and other exchange projects for the portage east building....a lesson to be learned.

If you look at a map of Winnipeg, you'll see that P&M is like a bike wheel hub with spokes coming in from all directions. Many Winnipeggers assume traffic tie-ups will be immense at this hub if traffic light timing has to be changed to give pedestrians enough time to cross the intersection. Whether if this fear is founded or not has been up for debate. Then there are all those Winnipeggers that simply think we shouldn't spend money on anything nice. Add all that up and that's what brought us the NO verdict. After the NO vote, mayor Bowman promised that P&M underground and it's entrances would still get overhauled and made more inviting. It's been crickets since that promise. I hope the sums it all up in a nutshell.

At risk of opening up yet another debate. most drivers being during the 1 hour morning and afternoon rushes. The rest of the time, traffic is not bad. Even during the rush, it's not really that bad. I can get through there in one light cycle every time I go. That's not even bad traffic, just traffic.

Regardless, the whole thing was bungled by the mayor. Instead of putting it to a vote chock full of suburbanites, it should've gone through the wringer at city hall and gone through normal public consultations. That way we could have all the info, and the City could still do whatever the see fit.

Just putting up clear signage identifying the entry points to the underground concourse would be a massive improvement. And I'm not talking about the measly "W" wayfinding stickers in the windows, I mean actual clearly-worded, large light-up signs designed to catch your attention.

Then you wouldn't have situations like with that Hollywood guy last week who was completely befuddled by the intersection. Because much like with our street signs, P&M assumes that you're a lifelong Winnipegger, that you know where you're going and don't need any directions or advance warning as to which way you should go.

I noticed today that the ground floor windows, along with the top level windows shattered in the fire last fall have now been boarded up with plywood. It gives the whole thing a certain shabby chic look, if you consider abandoned derelict buildings shabby chic, I suppose.

In the Portage and Main area, definitely. That building at 242 Princess has to be up there too.

that black and white one thats been empty for years and an atempt to split it into 3 condos was made what a decade ago by a realistate agent? it has having maintinance done to it here and there every year. think roof was done few years ago as well

Last week when I went to downtown I noticed people were working/construction elevator was moving on the Keewayden Building/Hyatt place. Does anyone know if the project has resumed?
