It would be both odd and really problematic if they hit bedrock in their excavation. Odd, in that I'm not aware of any excavations in this vicinity actually getting down to a true bedrock. Problematic, in that if it is bedrock, it will be extremely difficult and expensive to remove it as required to provide the parkade that was designed.

I'm thinking that it is most likely that the driven sheet piles hit refusal, probably bearing on boulders. Boulders in downtown are pretty common and often present difficulties for piling contractors. Depending on the depth and size of the boulders, they would also present some pricey problems.

I don't have pictures but I can sort of update as I drive past most days to and from work. No the south side pilings are not even it looks like maybe the west ones are for the most part. I don't generally get a clear look at anything else as I am driving. They are digging looks like the excavator is half visible. and it was parked near the southwest corner the other day when I noticed it.

And this is going to be done in what year? This decade could be a challenge at this rate.

It would be odd because under Saskatoon is all glacial till for like 150-200m

Any photo updates for us out of towners? What are some of the construction milestones we can expect during 2021?

Well, they're making some progress but not exactly flying along. Compared to the October 18th photo near the bottom of page 7, it hasn't advanced as much as I would have expected in 2 months. Stark contrast to the speed of excavation & shoring for the River Landing towers.

Very intrigued about the lattice-style framing (forming?) at the north end of the site in the photo above. You can see the elements of it in the earlier photos but it now seems to be assembled in place. Any ideas as to what that is?

Based on this latest photo, I guess it's simply truss bracing for the shoring wall. Gotta say, that's a new one to me.

Seems like work has stalled there a bit. Do you think they are now waiting until they can move crane from Broadway site?

Can someone please explain to me why we keep seeing excavations happen throughout the coldest months of the winter?? Correct me if I’m wrong but is the ground not frozen?! Sorry for my ignorance here, I’ve just never understood it.
