The 542,285 sq feet project consists of a Marriott Hotel, Retail and a 30 storey condo tower of 303 units. The site was previously used as a parking lot and former home to Alberta Boots. Total estimated construction costs are $158 million./quote]

This development will do wonders for this area of the Beltline. Very excited. Hopefully we see work resume on Place 10 soon as well. As much track land we can get developed as possible!

Yes! This project will enhance the area significantly.

I wonder how many years until someone finally gets rid of the ridiculous parking lot on the other side of the tracks along 9th Ave between 8th St and 5th St.

One tower regardless of its height would be awful on such a large site.

Keep those for the commercial core. The Beltline still has a huge amount of vacant land and redevelopment sites to fill. I would really like to see a 13ave type greenway built along 10th ave. This area as it currently stands is an embarrassment outside of a few pockets along the south side of the avenue.

Excavator tore down the western portion of AB boots, bunch of bin filling etc going on. Axiom Builders signage up - they seem to be expanding quickly here and appear to be efficient builders from what I'm seeing with their other residential towers projects.

That's really great news. I believe I read that Axiom is also doing the construction of the building.

Edit: Per the government, they are! Source: http://majorprojects.alberta.ca/deta...ference-Centre

I believe there are already plans for that stretch as part of WAM's next big Calgary project. Around 2200 residential units planned for the site.

That WAM project is for the Metro Ford site. I was referring to this wasteland:

From Sunday. With no underground parking, these guys could easily be above grade quicker than 6th and 10th.

Maybe Strategic's project will get started soon too? 10th ave finally starting to catch on to the development wave in a big way?

In Calgary, Mamdani purchased the site of a proposed office tower on the southeast corner of 10th Avenue and 1st Street S.E. Re-named and re-designed by IBI Group, Strategic has received a development permit to build ONE as a 32-storey tower consisting of 277 apartments and 100,000 square feet of office/retail over the first five floors.

Axiom Builders expects to begin construction in the first quarter of 2016.

That's what I had heard, but only for the hotel portion....not sure how that works with the residential portion if there is underground there or not.

This site backs onto the rail line, correct? I could see an above-grade parking structure closest to the line as a buffering element for the rest of the project.

This would be great! The 100 units at 14th Street and 16 Ave NW also intrigues me! Can't wait for ONE to start in the spring too! Have we seen the design of it yet?

Found a new render of this development on an Axiom PDF. The residential component looks to be much taller than in the previous renders we've seen.
