A 100-acre development estimated to be valued at more than $500 million when completed is in the planning stages for south Springfield.
RW Developments LLC expects to start developing The Ridge at Ward Branch in first-quarter 2019, said Phil Williams, who owns the company with business partner Trip Rhodes.
Plans call for 60 acres of commercial space for potential tenants including restaurants, hotels, offices, retail centers and lofts, as well as bike trails and natural elements to form a park-like environment. On the back 40 acres, RW Developments plans to open a senior living continuum-of-care community.
“We’ve got a substantial amount of interest on the front end from tenants. We have quite a bit of office space that people have already put a lot of interest in,” he said. “It’s exceeded all of our expectations.”

Museum director Nick Nelson presented the proposal to the Springfield City Council on Tuesday. The plans would turn the museum into a multi-story building meant as a community hub with trails and a meandering stream.
The Springfield News-Leader reports Nelson said the project would cost about $17 million if it’s completed all at once.
The museum board is considering having the construction done in three phases. After the renovation, the museum will continue to offer free admission.
A walking and biking trail will connect the museum and adjacent Phelps Grove Park to the Water Wise garden to the south and to Fassnight Park to the west.
Architecture firm BNIM has been working with the museum to develop a master plan for the building and surrounding area. BNIM has offices in Kansas City, Des Moines, and San Diego. It has done work for the Nelson-Atkins Museum and Princeton University’s Lewis Center for the Arts.

A new hotel is coming to downtown Springfield and city officials say it's reflective of the growth and demand in the area.
Bryan Hotels Management is bringing the new hotel - Tru by Hilton, to a 2.2-acre lot at the corner of Elm Street and Kimbrough.
Bryan Hotels already owns several student properties in town, but this is the first hotel in Springfield. They say they chose downtown to be a part of the momentum in that area.
"Demand is increasing in Springfield," said Brad Gebhard, the chief operations officer for Bryan Hotels. "There's a lot of lodging opportunities north and south; we feel like the downtown area is a little bit underdeveloped."
With the tenants moving out of the six houses on that block last month, the houses will be demolished in the coming weeks and construction of the new hotel will begin. Gebhard expects to break ground in August.
The building will be four stories tall with 98 units.
"It will have a real contemporary feel," he said. "It is really big in technology."

Springfield sure has a lot going on. Keep up the good work Shwayze1994! I'll make it down to Springfield soon. Looks like the city is reinventing itself.

Hammons tower led lighting

Why has Hammons Tower remained without LED skyline lights? As Springfield's tallest structure, especially one with historical significance, this building needs to be outfitted with an LED lighting system. Anyone know how to get a rendering of what that could look like? I'll start a social media awareness push. Let's light up this city!

Lightbulb

I think IDEA Commons needs a signature "high rise" in the middle of it with the rest of the project acting as support to bring density to it. Here's hoping for an updated city skyline within the next few years! Also- Hammons Tower needs exterior LED lighting!

The Hammons would look great with LED lighting. Who knows why they haven’t done it yet.

HUGE NEWS THOUGH

“a Los Angeles-based development firm plans to build a $50 million apartment complex on 1.8 acres off downtown Springfield's St. Louis Street, along Benton Avenue.”

“The five-story, 194-unit project would repurpose land once home to a dilapidated residential hotel frequented by adults and children living at the edge of homelessness. Groundbreaking is slated for next month; leases might be signed as soon as spring of 2021, said officials tied to the project.

"I think it’ll have a great impact," said Rob Haik, principal architect for H Design Group in Springfield, which is working with Kansas City-based Hollis + Miller Architects to design the project for College Town International LLC, the California developer.”
