I was just considering LA County. Orange County beach cities are very NIMBY. Huntington Beach especially with their agenda 21 conspiracy theorist planning comissioner who just had to resign over comments he made about Islam. In Newport Beach there's a fight over a 26 story tower right now.

Then Venice, Marina Del Rey and San Pedro. Two of these already have some small highrises but all could use some more.

Way overdue skyline encroachment...but more flat roofs. Ew ick. I do like the compensatory staggered motif, tho. This project shows how it can be properly done.

Wasn't there a recent city ordinance (whatever the word is) putting the kibosh on that?

This is a great addition which will really stretch the skyline south.

Santa Monica??????

Wasn't an iconic Gehry-designed 21 story condo proposed there recently, and what became of that, first high rise in Santa Monica since 1970?

And if there's been no high rises added since 1970, what masochistic developer would want to propose building even a mid-rise in that city?

Anti-development, anti-density Nimby's can even be found 10-20 miles east of the coastline! Curiously, I rented a car to explore the suburbs of the eastern area of L.A., hoping to find some satellite city, with a true viable downtown, with housing. Didn't find it in downtown Azusa, El Monte or Ontario, or Riverside for that matter. What gives? Ontario Azusa and Ontario has possibilities to become real satellite cities.

I say let's hurry, hurry, hurry and get all those proposed high rises built in downtown L.A. before the Nimby's start growling in DTLA! (Nope! That building is going to block my view!)

Great news. LA needs more of these tri tower developments. The future is building up!

DT LA has changed for the better in the last 5 years minus Skid Row.

Hopefully Oceanwide has been educational for other developers, and really hoping the city scrutinized their funding.

We definitely need more towers, but not these mega developments where all the buildings look the same. Our skyline is made up of two many twins, with a triplet and a quartet sprinkled in. Give me some variety.

I don't think that's a bad thing, from the rendering I think these towers would look epic in their location.

Let's be real, LA doesn't really have that many buildings (for such a large North American city at least) at all so there's not too many of anything.

Oceanwide's is basically complete, and it's Shenglong who's behind it. Not sure their track record though.

Getting closer. City planning folks asking that the developer eliminate digital signs facing the freeway, include affordable units, and have decks facing the freeway be unusable.

^^^ Which im all for. Get rid of the freeweay lined digital signs. As someone who commutes daily on the 5, having traffic flow amazingly north bound (in the evening) just to get to the citadel where it slows down to a crawl because a few morons slow just to see the digital ads is really annoying. Literally saw a lady take both hands off the wheel to take a picture with her cellphone of a sale ad. Ridiculous.

The developer of the Olympia project, City Century, successfully appealed both contested aspects of the project—digital signs and balconies facing the 110 Freeway—to the City Council’s planning and land use management committee on Tuesday.

Chinese developer buys land for mega project in downtown Los Angeles

Quote:
Chinese developer City Century has acquired a prime development site across the street from L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles where it intends to build a $1-billion housing and retail complex called Olympia.

City Century recently closed the long-pending $121-million acquisition of a site on Olympic Boulevard alongside the 110 Freeway, where it announced in 2016 that it intended to build three high-rises on the site of a former medical clinic lying between L.A. Live and the Metropolis residential and hotel complex.

Nice, I don't know much about City Century though, hope they're the real deal. They'd be wise to seize this opportunity.
