Big Apple, 45 posts in a row? Are you kidding me? Do that again and you get to take a week's vacation from the forum.

4) The thread is now yours

5) I'll stay out if you want

ps

6) Is it bad to post 45 posts when you're on your A game?

Amor never posted 45 times within the span of 44 minutes. When he does post he also contributes some commentary and multiple pictures. He's not just post whoring.

If you don't know that what you did is unacceptable, maybe you need to chill out and observe the flow of the forum a bit before going ape shit.

Absolutely fantastic. The rendering showed a much more pleasing arrangement of openings in the wood wall, but the reality is wonderful.

I wonder why Canada seems to be producing so much good design? They're far smaller than the US, but share many of the same cultural traits (c'mon, Canadians - you know it's true.) Is it just that influence from modern France extends even to architecture?

I don't really know why (or if) Canada is producing better design than other places but I don't think there's much of a connection between population & design.

No, but in a smaller country, you'd expect less diversity of ideas, but it seems like Canada has a greater tolerance for modernism alongside traditional styles. C'mon, even Winnipeg has progressive design these days.

I guess all the people who claim that "modernism died in the 70s" were right, if you confine their remarks to America. Modernism started to offer a dystopian vision of the future instead of an optimistic one (Paul Rudolph vs. Mies) and that combined with the social unrest just turned many Americans off of modernism. There's a tolerance for Modernism now, but it's still perceived as sort of an elitist thing, whereas the tastes of the middle-class run towards brick and columns.

It's not a coast-vs-heartland thing, either... any US city that experienced growth in the 50s/60s has a roster of modernist buildings, often mutilated beyond recognition or poorly-maintained.

New Taipei City Museum of Art / by DCPP arquitectos
By Guest Author on Tuesday, March 6, 2012

Our proposal for the New Taipei City Museum of Art is an open and welcoming design that erases the barrier of exclusivity normally surrounding the world of art, patrons, and experts.

As such, the architecture of the New Taipei City Museum of Art is one that embodies this idea of erasure through eliminating the traditional borders between exhibition space and circulation, as well as exterior and interior. Every part of the museum is represented by a space without limits that can hold any type of expression.

Frick Chemistry Laboratory - Princeton University, Princeton, United States
New home for the Department of Chemistry on Princeton's historic campus

This building provides a new home to reinvigorate the Department of Chemistry, integrating teaching and high-level research spaces in a facility which enhances interaction, collaboration and creativity. The design rethinks typical component organisation: offices, normally placed surrounding the laboratories themselves (and therefore blocking light and views into these spaces) are accommodated in separate towers facing the campus woodland, whilst laboratories are housed in a deep, glazed linear block to the rear.

Amidst its socio cultural context, IMI stands tall with its contemporary approach

Orissa is a state widely known for its opulent cultural heritage and rich architecture. Geographically, Bhubaneswar is situated in the eastern coastal plains of Orissa, India. It is one of those rare places where tradition matches its steps with modernity, where culture and technology flourish together, where the glorious past is preserved and an illustrious future is in the making. The architecture of the city should reflect the very essence of Bhubaneswar. IMI Bhubaneswar aims at presenting a timeless piece of architecture which bridges the gap between the past and the present cultural and social life of the Orissan people.

Automotive Centre of Excellence facilitates a contemporary approach to vocational learning

Architecturally the Kangan Institute building is a metaphor for the machine as an object of desire. Educationally this building celebrates professional skills training, technology and innovation. The brief for the facility required that all aspects of automotive industry training would be accommodated under the one roof. All facades respond passively to environmental conditions, simultaneously allowing controlled daylight into the building whilst maintaining a sense of transparency and permeability.

Foster + Partners’ Towering Hermatage Plaza in Paris Gets the Green Light
by Andrew Michler, 03/07/12

Western Europe’s tallest towers just got the green light for construction - and once complete, they will dramatically change the look of the Parisian cityscape. Designed by Foster+Partners, Hermatage Plaza will feature twin towers which rotate 90 degrees to a peak of 320 meters. They will be mixed-use, including apartments, a hotel, offices, and a shopping destination that will bring high-density living to the outskirts of the famous city that broke the mold of tall buildings with the Eiffel Tower.
