I doubt they are prepping for Site I... looks like that was a temporary construction loading dock. They are probably ripping it out as a final closeout item on Cirrus/Cascade now that all units interior are finished and punchlist is complete.

The residents have a separate, permanent loading dock on the other side.

I'm curious what's in the black box wrapped in ice+water shield...

As we all remember, hopes that this would be a supertall were based on the possibility that the 950' figure excluded a sizable podium, as explained here:

The 2018 article reminds us that Parcel I was originally proposed to be 875 feet with 80 stories. After adding 5 stores, the height increased by 75 feet to 950 feet. Removing 12 floors could well bring the height to <800 feet.

Not sure if this is directed at me since I'm known for liking height (hey, it's a skyscraper forum), but not really simply on the basis that it's not particularly surprising, most optimism I've ever had around Chicago's projects (or any city in the USA outside NYC) was mostly just wishful thinking. Deep down I know most projects will either never happen or get VE'd. Although we do get lucky here and there.

On a positive note it would continue Chicago's streak of ~800 foot buildings when 400LSD is done.

800 footers are kind of short though, not terrible especially in large quantity but more ambition would be nice.

I'm mostly worried about how VE'd the design will be. It's a really nice looking building.

With the height reduction, I’m assuming they’re changing the design? Would love to see a replica of One Bennet here. Would be an cool contrast to all the glass buildings in the immediate area.

I wouldn’t be surprised. There was some earth being moved around on Parcel O recently, and there’s not much left after that point.

Gotcha, I guess a lot can change between now and 2027. Why are they waiting that long though?

Is the reason they're not taking advantage of the full height because there are no buildings blocking the view so they don't really have to build high? That would be my guess.

Eh, not really a fan of those wannabe art deco buildings that look like stucco. It's alright but I would rather see some blue glass and curves.

Maybe they are waiting for the economy, local/national/global to recover a little.
