The developer relented and offered this proposal which was approved:

I'm not sure if the developer simply had financial troubles or just wanted to give the community and city a massive middle finger, but this is what ended up being built:

It is imo the most god awful of any condos built in the last 2 decades in the Beltline. Even worse than Vantage Pointe. It is in such a highly visible location and is so jarringly ugly that I would even nominate it as the worst building in Calgary.

Here's a streetview to give you some context:

The backside is even worse.

Park Point is a nice new condo that was built facing Central Memorial along 17th Ave. The units facing the park itself probably commanded premium pricing. I think they should have been discounted though for having to be retinally assaulted every day by the big blue porta-potty across the way.

See it trying to hide behind the trees:

That is awful. Truly godawful. And yes I agree that is the worst building in Calgary. It’s like a shitty expectation vs reality photo come to life.

Needless roof decorations are one of my pet peeves when it comes to buildings. Here’s two buildings in Mississauga that have said ugly roof decorations.

They should be forced to name every ugly building after a city that's equally ugly. That's the only way we can get 5% of Mississauga to live in Thunder Bay.

Ha ha. And we would get such amazing Russian names as The Norilsk Condos. The Venetian would have to be renamed as the name brings shame to Venice.

The Sudburian.

Near Wawa is a zone called The Wawa Fume Kill, it is an area where trees can't grow due to heavy metal contamination in the soil. There are lots of berries there but I don't trust them. You can literally see it from space, it looks like a beige scar northeast of Lake Superior.

Which condo do you think is ugly enough to be named The Fume Kill?

From the 2/3 corner perspective it appears to have 2 eyes and a beak. The arches above the eyes make it look surprised.

Twenty five years ago I lived within walking distance of this building but on the lakeshore itself. I haven't been back since and looking on Google Street View the strip of commercial looks a lot different. Check out this place and it is pretty obvious what it was.

https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.59309...4!8i8192?hl=en

Back in the mid 90's it was a fairly middle class and allegedly affordable area in the 416. Not so sure now.

I noticed that one of landmark 'taverns' that had dubious entertainment on Lakeshore Blvd is gone. It was a real dive of a place with a 'hotel' above with 'visual' entertainment.

Just before it was knocked down

and now

Either Clockzilla or The Venetian.

Lol. I live in Mississauga. If I spent a day going to the right spots, I could fill this thread with some truly horribly ugly shit.

This whole thread does remind me of that comedian (was he Danish?) who said the idea Canada is a nicer America is wrong. Canada is a frozen wasteland. It's closer to Russia with gay rights.

18 Concord Place up here in Toronto definitely belongs here. A stucco house building with inconsistent weird colouring.

Lasalle/Verdun really haven't been blessed by nice highrises, unlike neighbouring Nun's Island.

Behold Saint-Léonard's skyline:

WTF is this thing? This is a new contender in the heavy weight class, I think.

^Looks to be 10 stories of pre-cast with bad colouring and suspect nods to neo-classicism.
