Beautiful find! I always referred to this building as the days inn building. Did St. Joseph used to be called calhoun? Not sure where that address came from. Also, I always thought or read that this building was not salvageable, or too expensive and not worth it to do so.

The building was said to have an asbestos abatement problem. Over the past year there has been activity going on every now and then (interior walls removed). I hope the group behind this extensively redevelop the exterior. I'd prefer to see it demolished but anything is better than its current state.

If they restored it to the way it looked when it opened in 1972, it would look just fine and downtown Houston needs a an affordable as pretty much everything down there is getting expensive and unless this thing gets a drastic renovation which I don't see happening, it's probably going to remain pretty modest given the design. It's basically a tall motel. Sheraton is modest chain anyway.

Yeah, we have a decent amount of affordable hotels coming online downtown but still in need of more. I too don't see them extensively redoing the exterior because it's large building, which can add up the cost just for a Sheraton. I could see a complete re-do coming out either very well or pretty wacky, but even just masking the parking garage can be a major improvement.

BHP certainly turned out nice. Pickard Chilton is developing quite a portfolio of buildings in Houston.

I'm a huge fan of this building, but approaching it on Wednesday from Westheimer I was virtually blinded by the reflections that stream directly down Post Oak from this building toward the Williams Tower at dusk. It happens continuously as you drive toward the building....a new group of windows on the tower continuously comes into focus on the road and there is no escape from this for some distance. (I had on very dark sunglasses and it was still like looking directly into a silver spotlight...if you tried to drive toward it without sunglasses you'd have to hold your hand up to protect your eyes...it's that bright).

Work has commenced. The project includes a 5-story garage, but it's unknown if it will be be built next to the hotel or if the hotel will be built on top of the garage.
