CLAYTON | 212 South Meramec | 380 FT | 27 FLOORS

Apartment tower proposed for downtown Clayton
April 01, 2014 6:30 am
By Tim Bryant
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Plans are proceeding for a $75 million highrise apartment tower in downtown Clayton.

GTE Properties has begun the process to get the necessary zoning review for its proposed 26-story building at Bonhomme and Meramec Avenues. Plans call for ground-floor retail space, four levels of parking, a top-floor “amenities” level and 20 floors with a total of 250 apartments.

HDA Architects, of Chesterfield, is behind the building's exterior design of glass and aluminum. The developers have called the project the Crossing.

In documents filed in February, HDA Architects said the Crossing proposal fits Clayton's master plan by providing a high-density residential project near mass transit.

New Residential Tower Near Transit Proposed for Clayton
Posted 12/23/2013 by Lenora Fisher
Citizens For Modern Transit

The Crossing in Clayton will be a 24-story luxury apartment tower with 255 rental units adjacent to the Clayton Central Avenue MetroLink stop. The $350 million dollar development aims to offer an urban setting near transit that attracts professionals, corporate travelers, and students seeking the flexibility and advantages of renting.

GTE Properties, a Chesterfield-based real estate firm will break ground on the project in 2014 and initial occupancy is scheduled for January 2016. The development site is bound by Meremec Ave. on the west, Bonhomme Avenue on the north, and Central Avenue on the east. The site is ideally situated by the MetroLink and adjacent to Forest Park Parkway, a 1/4 mile east of I-170 and approximately 20 minutes from Downtown St. Louis to the east and the Airport to the northwest.

CLAYTON | 212 South Meramec | 380 FT. | 27 FLOORS | SITE PREP

Project formerly known as The Crossing.

Work underway on Clayton apartment tower
8 hours ago • By Tim Bryant

CLAYTON • Among planned apartment buildings that would transform downtown Clayton, first out of the ground will be a 26-story tower at 212 South Meramec Avenue.

Project developers have cleared the site and are preparing to begin foundation work in July. Owners of the $70 million project are CA Ventures, of Chicago, and White Oak Realty Partners, of Rosemont, Ill.

Martin Walz, White Oak’s senior vice president of design and construction, said construction will take about 18 months, although part of the building could be ready for occupancy about a year after work begins.

White Oak recently acquired part of the project from GTE Properties, which called the development The Crossing when first proposed more than a year ago at the southeast corner of South Meramec and Bonhomme avenues; GTE is no longer involved in the project. Walz said the project’s new name is simply 212 South Meramec.

White Oak has done high-rise apartment projects in Chicago. Walz said 212 South Meramec will be similar to but smaller than the Arkadia, White Oak’s 33-story apartment building in the Greektown area of Chicago’s West Loop.

Planned at 212 South Meramec are 250 apartments, ground-floor retail space and garage parking for residents. HDA Architects, of Chesterfield, designed the building. Patrick Holleran, HDA’s vice president, said the project will “bring energy” to the area.

Work resumes on Clayton apartment tower

Quote:
With financing in hand, jobs are returning to the 26-story, $75 million luxury apartment tower at 212 South Meramec Avenue in Clayton.

Site preparation started this spring but excavation slowed down within the summer time after employees uncovered an electric heating-gas tank that was utilized by a former structure on the site.

The introduction of 250 apartments, garage parking and street-level retail space is a project of CA Endeavors, of Chicago, and White Oak Real Estate Partners, of Rosemont, Ill.

Wink

Construction has begun on this project.

After a long delay due to environmental issues and cleanup at the site, The tower crane is up for 212 South Meramec in Clayton.

Builders are St. Louis-based Paric Construction and Chicago-based McHugh.

Downtown Clayton has gentle slopes throughout, but in this photo you can see the tower crane for the 26-story 212 South Meramec tower emerging on the skyline.
