Not sure about a height change, but it has cleared he 1,069 ft study from the FAA...

Nice. So this is probably 1,069 ft. to structural tip.

Could it be the building + construction crane?

No. Construction crane approvals are separate, and not included in structural height calculations or in FAA approvals. This is for permanent structures.

And looking at previous FAA approvals, I don't see any that don't conform with final height, so it would be highly unlikely if 520 Fifth weren't 1,069 ft. to structural tip (which doesn't contradict the 995 ft. height per NYC DOB calculations, of course).

ESB illustrates the discrepancy. ESB is officially 1,250 ft., but for the purposes of overall structural height, it's 1,454 ft.

The height from the DOB permit is at 896 ft, but the official diagram shows us the full structure and height, at 984 ft. But filings change all the time, and that could change too. The FAA filing tells us it was submitted for study at the greater height, but we don’t know if that is the current plan. Unless the tower is even higher, it wouldn’t have to be submitted again.

As far as people involved in the development do, it’s usually referred to as a 1,000 ft building - which could be a reference to either height.

Latest filings bump it up 5 ft to 1,000 ft. That would make it the same height as 262 Fifth Avenue, another tower nearing official construction phase.

This is a beautiful building. I much prefer it to either version of 570 5th Extell plans.

A 1,000 foot residential tower on 5th Avenue.

This would be unthinkable 10 years ago. Unconscionable right after 9/11.

Too deep for me to see what's going on down in the foundation, but it sounds like they're still drilling through rock....

A couple of renderings I made of this tower-- I really love this design, especially after seeing it from various angles while modelling it. It looks like this building will have a lot of subtle facade details.

Nice! This is another one that will be “officially” under construction soon, and another great addition to the skyline. We are really spoiled, but I love it.

Why those weird Brooklyn styled buildings on top of scaffoldings? Is that a place for workers to rest?
