That rendering on the Studio Gang page is super new, I had shown the page to someone a week or so ago and it still had the rendering that is shown on the Herald's page. I checked the zoning docs from earlier this year and they still show the old design. I think they would need to file a request to make this level of change to the design, given that Mesa had to file one to change the facade on Vue53, but I could be wrong.
Have to admit I thought Hitchcock was designed by Henry Ives Cobb... So I was surprised to learn it was DHP.

It appears the VE pic of Solstice has disappeared from the Studio Gang site.

Let's hope that's the last we see of that VE design for Solstice.

Plus, cool pic of North Campus facade:

Solstice was namedropped in yesterday's North Campus article which made me hopeful we would hear something soon, checked the news this morning and boom:

Quote:
Jeanne Gang Explains Why She Changed The Solstice On The Park Design
Sam Cholke - September 13, 2016 - DNAInfo Chicago

Construction on the Jeanne Gang-designed Solstice on the Park is set to begin in the fall, and Gang on Monday explained why she made changes to the 26-story building that’s been in the planning stages since 2007.

Peter Cassel, director of community development for the Silliman Group, said Monday that construction on the Gang-designed building will begin in the early fall, likely in October.

Can't wait to hear the sweet, sweet NIMBY tears that this one will bring.

Given how much the HP NIMBYs complain about Studio Gang, I love the last part:

Quote:
Bret Harte LSC talks construction plans for Solstice
Allison Matyus - Hyde Park Herald - 9/15/2016
...
According to Peter Cassel, the director of community development for MAC Properties, the developer for the project, fences for the beginning of the construction process will go up on Oct. 3.

The construction process will take just under two years, with the first tenants of the 250-unit building expected to move in by late spring of 2018.
...
To engage the school with the construction happening next door, Cassel suggested that students could make art to put on the construction fence or have guest speakers come in to speak to the kids, such as Studio Gang founder, Jeanne Gang.
http://hpherald.com/2016/09/15/bret-...-for-solstice/

I would assume that actual construction will not begin until late October or November, given that they have to demolish both the parking garage and the old sales center first.

Maybe I missed something but I just heard about that hotel the University is considering for the Midway...

Do you think there's any chance the 53rd and Cornell project may be revived?

I noticed today that the Solstice PD has been updated recently. The diagrams match the latest rendering, and the change request letter mentions changing the cladding from "grey to brown earth tones"
