Not if the NIMBYs who blocked the hotel on Stony Island have anything to say about it.

^ The NIMBYs will not manage to block a hotel.

The only way the NIMBYs were able to do so at Stoney Island is by voting their district dry. They even stepped over the Alderman.

They won't do the same thing here.

I also noticed that the facade panels are starting to go up on the new Gang designed UofC dorm, haven't had a chance to snap a picture yet.

^^^ How do those panels look? I'm really curious about that because the materials used will entirely determine how well this one turns out.

Finally made it down there this weekend:

I think it looks pretty sick, and will look even better once the gaps between panels have been filled.

Oh wow, it's impressive they were able to use facade sections that large, that's one way to eliminate unsightly precast seams...

Heh, sorta reminds me of the effect of this building on UIC's medical campus.

I won't be able to get to the rest, but I did snap a pic of Vue53:

Nah. The only similarity is that they both incorporate precast panels hoisted by crane. The UIC hospital building uses the ugliest from of exposed aggregate in an ugly shade of muck. The place would sit very well next to soviet buildings.

The UofC version is totally different. Very vertical, almost sinuous when you see it in person, easy on the eyes and a beautiful shade of off-white. How it will age is, of course, another question.

Whoa, I think you were reading way too much into my comment. I was just noting that both facades appear like optical illusions when viewed from certain angles. Otherwise, the buildings are clearly very different.

City Hyde Park 9/30

Not sure it's been advertised, but this is going to be a Whole Foods, with a Marshall's on 2.
