Yesterday afternoon I went for a walk with my wife along Rue Jacques-Cartier which is a riverfront street in Pointe-Gatineau that has been set up with docks, benches, landscaping, paths, etc.

It's one of the narrower points on the Ottawa River between Ottawa and Gatineau. You can see various lookouts in Rockcliffe Park on the other side, and the U.S. ambassador's residence and some other large residences loom over the cliffs on the Ottawa side.

There were quite a few people on the Gatineau with binoculars waving to family members on the Ottawa side doing the same thing.

^ Interesting. I went for a bike ride around the neighbourhood after dinner yesterday, and I noticed several crowded driveways with more than three cars parked. I didn't see much of that at Easter, but it appears that quarantine fatigue may be setting in around here.

I noticed that yesterday as well - my walk took me up through Cardinal Glen and there were definitely a lot of extra cars around, with very few people outside. I concluded that there were a lot of Mother's Day visits going on.

Humans are social animals.

One can only spend so much time alone/with the same people, so I'm not surprised that in absence of a crisis in places, people want to get out, especially with spring starting.

People joke about being hermits in the modern era, but for most people it's really bad to be socially isolated. Which is one of the weird ironies of this as compared to most things - generally those who have better social connections tend to be healthier than the isolated.

I think a lot of families got together for Mother's Day. Probably not a crazy amount of contact, but definitely a few family groups together.

It's funny given that it's never been easier to be social while still physically isolating yourself. But people just want to have that close, in-person contact even if they know the risks.

I know this is grim, but the cold reality is that there will probably be more than a few moms (older ones in particular) who will be getting trips to the hospital as belated Mother's Day gifts...

What I'm loving is everyday is like a Saturday. The day I get crap done around my place and get caught up on chores. Today I painted, planted some ferns (they better not freeze tonight), prepped meals for a week, worked out, walked my crazy dog 4 times and ran errands. Now I can't sleep so I'm having some local Whiskey and it doesn't matter because tomorrow is another Saturday.

Just got put on hiatus last Friday from my job, will be going back in September.

Now I have to supposedly create a garden or some shit, as mandated by wife.

Also, I saw that Scooby movie with my kids just to ogle Linda Cardellini.

Ya, I'm off until September as well. I've been off for tow weeks now. My job depends on the entertainment industry in California to get back up to speed. If I had a car I'd drive out west right now, but as it stands I'm stuck in Toronto with my Psycho rescue dog.
